SOURCE BY FEARLESS

Riot has released some more details about the new Runes system coming this preseason. Runes and Masteries will be combining into one system that is available to all players for free. All players will be able to enter battle with the same number of runes, though leveling up will unlock access to additional rune options.

If you missed their earlier high-level overview, check out this earlier post where they introduce the concept and explore some rune ideas they have.

When building a rune page, you'll choose runes in two paths (shown above). The primary path includes a keystone rune, a greater rune and two standard runes. The secondary path has two slots for either greater or standard runes (no keystone).

The five rune paths are currently called Domination, Inspiration, Precision, Sorcery and Resolve, though these names are of course subject to change.

Each rune slot includes three or four options for runes, depending on which of the five paths is selected. Your primary path will also provide a small stat benefit (passively, apart from the runes themselves). For example, Precision might grant a small amount of Attack Speed.

You'll need to select your secondary runes from a single path. Your secondary path will not grant you any passive stats.

Below are some examples of runes that might exist in the Resolve path. Again, all of this is subject to change (icons are likely placeholders).

Stone Skin
Gain 5 Armor, +2 per nearby enemy champion. Range: 800 units
Fortified Mind
Gain 5 Magic Resist, +2 per nearby enemy champion. Range: 800 units
Discipline
After 10 minutes gain 10 Armor and 10 Magic Resist, +2 of each per nearby enemy champion. Range: 800 units
Ruined King's Tribute (Keystone)
Every 4 seconds in combat your next attack deals damage to nearby champions and large monsters equal to 3% of your max health and heals you for 20-75% of this amount based on level. Ranged Champions: Damage and healing are halved.
The Third Path
+100 Health (permanently). -10% Damage to Champions until 10 minutes
Intelligence
+5% Cooldown Reduction. +5% Max Cooldown Reduction. +5% Summoner Spell Cooldown Reduction. +5% Item Cooldown Reduction. +5% Runes Cooldown Reduction.
Store Credit
You can enter debt to buy items. The amount you can borrow increases over time. Debt limit: 150 + 5/minute. Lending Fee: 50 gold per item. (Enabled at 2:00 when passive gold begins)
