Bloody hell, it seems that you can get sensitive advice on the internet.
If you're from the UK, there is loads of support out there if you need it, "children" in care automatically get access to mental health services etc. There's also things like support groups, but I'm not sure I'd recommend them or not :/
If you're from the US then I don't know too much about the system. I'm hoping there's similar things.
I'm not sure that this forum was the right place to put yourself out on a limb like that, but you seem to have been lucky in your responses. There are dedicated forums for people in similar situations to you, they should be easy to find through google. You'll get better advice, and it'll be a generally safer environment for discussions like this.

Wish you the best, the good thing about going through horrible agony early on in life, is that you will be a better and more understanding friend, husband, and father (Assuming you are a guy) IF you can make it through those experiences without being ruined by them. And it sounds like you have, so things should improve for you in the future :)
Truth here. Having a rough past helps lose the sugarcoating of adolescent ways and gives you a hard-knock look at life, and a future goal to not run the same road. My dad wasn't the greatest of father, but he gave me life-long lessons in life in his handling of himself and showing what road not to go down.
