Been thinking about watching tokyo ghoul, anyone know what its like? What kindof genre would you say its in? Like is it mostly horror, action or intrigue?
Gore. Lots and lots of censored gore. Tries to get a bit feely touchy and explores the nature of "monsters" while trying to view things from a different perspective. Feels very rushed but still a solid watch for me, aka worth the watch in my eyes unless you're not very big on the genre. It's not a masterpiece, in-fact it's barely above average.
...First 2 episodes are also quite strong compared to some of the later ones, so don't expect /too/ much

Tokyo Ghoul is, at best, mediocre. It just might be your kind of mediocre.
I'm not going to defend SAO2. 'Cuz SAO2 isn't really worth it. Sky high production values, but seriously the show is better titled Sinon *** Oggling. I haven't seen a fight scene worth spending on as much as the art budget clearly does, either. I'm still watching and enjoying it, but I don't pretend that it's good or even a better use of my time than watching most of this season's other anime.
Still, let's talk about anime that's definitely good, instead of just bashing ones that one or more of us dislike.
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is amazing. It's probably my favorite anime of the season. Hits that sweet spot of combination slice of life and comedy with a tinge of romance, while lapooning shoujo manga tropes. Searz, I think you'll get a kick out of this one.

tokyo ghoul is a mix of hype and darker society. It's more gory than it is scary. I really enjoyed it, despite it not having the best plot. I feel like for the past three years anime producers have focused on making animes centered on viewership than actual construction, hence the amount of fan service. There's been a rising amount of good animes in each consecutive season so far, so hopefully in the future we'll be seeing some code ge*** / steins;gate level stuff :3
I would've been pretty hyped for this season's anime if I hadn't read the mangas / light novels for the interesting ones already (Tokyo Ghoul, SAO II, Akame ga kill, seirei tsukai no blade dance <-- the fan service in this one o lawdy)

I think season 2 was decent until the most recent episodes. Pretty much nothing happening in ~2 episodes except some talking.
Been watching 2 other series lately:
Jinsei: pretty hilarious although some cringy/cliche moments occur from time to time. Overall good comedy value though.
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki Kun: fun, not much more to say about it. Lots of humour and fun characters although the setting is a bit weird x)
