What I find really sad about this is that people are referring to this as "Obama's views are evolving" rather than "Obama is flip-flopping". IMO, this was sort of a scumbag move. Now before you jump on the "Toshabi, you're a gay hating loser", consider the following;

If Obama had these views all this time, why did he wait till his final year to change his stance? When put on the spot for his stance on gay marriage in the past, he would flip-flop his stance and answer ambiguously to avoid giving a direct answer. So why did Obama grow balls now to evolve flip-flop on his original stance? The answer: votes! This is just a ******** move to win more voters primarily because he knows he can't use his presidential record to aptly support his reelection campaign. So in reality, he's just using the gay community as a tool rather than him giving a damn about gay Americans. So can you really praise him for changing his stance like this? Both sides don't really seem to think so.

Those are just my thoughts on it all.

^Nice One.

I'm not against gay marriage, in fact I fully support it. However I think that Obama may have lost more votes than he has gained. America is still pretty prejudiced.

It's not only about votes. Just, when going for the election you have to play your cards wisely. Saving this up for now is much better for Obama than just throwing that in when you are in a rather safe position.

I agree bro, it was a bad idea for him to say that near the end of his term.

I am a christian, so I do not *condone gay marriage" but it is not my job as a christian to try and control gay rights. I really dont even think its the governments job to try and define what marriage is. Christians cannot, and will not, join a man and a man, or a woman or woman, in holy matrimony...but that doesnt mean that we need to make it our job to stop gays all across america from being gay. As long as the gays are not trying to force us to wed them, then I have no problem with them being gay. I hate to see Christians that are so closed minded in thinking that they are somehow better than anyone else.

So I really think that the government should get its nose out of the whole "what is marriage" thing....its a waste of time, and it wont stop gays from being gay....

it just wont.

Not that I know much of American politics, but I thought Obama did a decent job overall.
Some vote-fishing is bound to happen on all sides, so is it really that bad?

Then they'll convert to the Flying Spaghetti Monster and be joined in Holy Macaroni.
"I saw [Twilight: Eclipse] in theaters with a girl I was dating at the time. I spent more time staring at my toes and wiggling them than I did watching this abomination. When Edward proposed to Blank Face, I finally looked up with a revelation.
I blurted out loud, in a dead silent theater full of teenage girls on opening night "Wait a minute, Edward has no blood flow. How does he get an erection?" I heard several men laughing, and had several girls turn and stare at me.

I did not get laid that night." - Berengier817

I really dont even think its the governments job to try and define what marriage is.

Well it is a lawful term and is used in law, such as in child custody cases. It's defined as a formal union of two partners and it wasn't exactly invented by Christianity, or any religion.

Considering it's a term that derives from law and is used by law, why not, then, should it be defined by those who make laws?

Christians can have their own little ceremony to make it recognised by religion, and nobody is asking for Christianity to recognise it as marriage in their god's eye or whatever, but as far as law is concerned, there's 100% no reason why same sex marriage should be illegal.
