It's not going away. They're doing it to insure used copies aren't being used (since they don't make money off used sales). It's annoying but necessary in order to whip stores like Gamestop back in line.

so? plenty of games force you to install origin as well and some browser addons. It still didn't stop anyone from playing BF3.

Well, the companies don't need pirates and stores who rent their games either so.. seems fair to me

ARE YOU SERIOUS?
OH, YOU HAVE NO IDEA.
I HATE GFWL WITH A BURNING ****ING PASSION.
I might even consider not buying Dark Souls (a game I'm incredibly hyped to play) just because of how much I ****ing hate that ****.
What's wrong with it?
It updates for a ****ING HOUR when starting a new game.
It's buggy as ****.

Disregard what everyone has said in this thread in regards to games for windows live.

The thing that I'm not to cozy about with games for windows live are the constant disconnects and account lock outs that occur when you're using games that rely on online gameplay. Dark Souls has a unique take on how the online community plays a role on your journey through the games stages. You probably already know that players can leave hints for other players, invade worlds and get assistance from players willing to lend a hand. With games for windows live (my brother went ahead and bought it on steam on inpulse), my brother constantly gets kicked during boss fights when he's getting assistance on difficult fights, he can't invade worlds properly and (at times), his games needs to restart due to getting disconnected form the game servers.

I've never had any real problems with games for windows live since I play in offline mode when I play games like Bioshock to avoid any problems, but seeing how sensitive the online network is for Dark Souls (well, for the PS3 in its previous version, internet problems were solely your fault if you had a bad ISP), having a stable server to run the game on is essential to fully enjoy all that this game has to offer. With games for Windows Live, it ruins the experience. That said, I really hope that games for windows live gets dropped and they have an alternative source to run this game on for the sake of its online play (Which has been showing some major problems within the first 24 hours of its released from what I've seen first hand.)
