Disregard what everyone has said in this thread in regards to games for windows live.
The thing that I'm not to cozy about with games for windows live are the constant disconnects and account lock outs that occur when you're using games that rely on online gameplay. Dark Souls has a unique take on how the online community plays a role on your journey through the games stages. You probably already know that players can leave hints for other players, invade worlds and get assistance from players willing to lend a hand. With games for windows live (my brother went ahead and bought it on steam on inpulse), my brother constantly gets kicked during boss fights when he's getting assistance on difficult fights, he can't invade worlds properly and (at times), his games needs to restart due to getting disconnected form the game servers.
I've never had any real problems with games for windows live since I play in offline mode when I play games like Bioshock to avoid any problems, but seeing how sensitive the online network is for Dark Souls (well, for the PS3 in its previous version, internet problems were solely your fault if you had a bad ISP), having a stable server to run the game on is essential to fully enjoy all that this game has to offer. With games for Windows Live, it ruins the experience. That said, I really hope that games for windows live gets dropped and they have an alternative source to run this game on for the sake of its online play (Which has been showing some major problems within the first 24 hours of its released from what I've seen first hand.)
