Most people find it extremely difficult to place poppy these days. She can work best in Top or Jungle, though her jungle can be slow. She is great Bot with the proper support. I personally think you can put anybody wherever you want as long as know how to play the champion and can deal with your enemies, providing situations and such. I have this thought process because I don't care much for a meta-game, as long as your team is balanced.
Poppy is really good at dropping squishies. She is extremely powerful. The biggest thing that counters her is having good positioning (high map awareness), being more mobile than her, or hard CC.

She's well known as an anti-ad carry champ. Though, all she's ever played at anymore is solo top or jungle. Works with the right comps but as a mid champ? I can't see it working.

Thanks to The_Nameless_Bard and myself(:3) for the sigs!
+Rep me if I was awesome and said awesome things like i'm supposed to :D

I've seen Malmortius do it quite succesfully against pretty much any mid he's faced. It basically requires a lot of MR runes and some patience as the first couple of levels can be annoying.
It definitely looks viable though, I've been meaning to try it myself. I don't really know who would 'counter' her but it does work against most popular picks.

Cool, but when Ocelote when against Cass, he was very agrresive early game pre-6 and he was dealing a good ammount of damage and coming ahead in trades.
That's probably because
Poppy can dodge Cass' Qs with a speed boost or
Heroic Charge and therefore avoiding
Twin Fang in trades.
Also,
Devastating Blow is near impossible to trade with >_<

Also,

I already jokingly said she should go Mid in other Poppy thread and was working on it. I'm quite happy someone else gone with it too. It also shows how versatile she can be (top with armor tanky runepage, mid with mres).
She theoretically have huge anti-burst potential due to her passive and that should cover her meele range disability to farm safely. If you learn to position yourself carefully and go with mresist runepage you should win the lane. Mresist items (lategame MoM is quite obvious choice for her) should also be considered. Tho I'm quite supprised he won vs. sustain dps ap like Cassio, I'd rather see her doing fine vs bursty champs.
