League of Legends (LoL) Question: Do we lose IP if we surrender?

Do we lose IP if we surrender?

I want to know if you really lose IP when you surrender. I keep arguing with my brother about this because, every time we are losing and the score is something like 3/21 at 15 minutes, he and his 3 friend (he usually play with one of them) keep refusing to surrender because of that and end up wasting my and our other teamates time.

So, if someone could please tell me if this is true or false, i'd really appreciate it.

Do you mean "do I get less IP for surrendering?" Because you will never lose IP for anything besides spending it. You will get less IP for a loss and slightly less for a shorter game. Surrendering versus having your nexus destroyed has no impact on the IP reward at the end of the game.

Surrender = quicker games, quicker games = more IP. Basic logic.

Thank you for all your answers. Hopefully, I should be able to convice my brother and his friend now to surrender when needed.

WTF, we just established that there aren't any IP penalties for surrendering. The question isn't whether we get penalties for surrendering in ranked (which there aren't any more than suffering a normal loss). And contrary to popular thought, there aren't always games you can come back from.

Back to the original question at hand.

    LoLWiki:

    On Summoner's Rift these base/caps are at 25 minutes (76 IP for a win) and 55 minutes (145 IP for a win).[1]

On Twisted Treeline the minimum base is at 20 minutes (64 IP for a win) the maximum cap is at 55 minutes (145 IP for a win).

I'd like to note that surrendering in a ranked game usually has penalties. These penalties aren't severe, but you're giving up on a game when you can always come back from it.

As they said, you get less for ending it early.

BUT you could have a match next game where the enemy surrenders early; in which case, isn't surrendering early in the previous game worth it? Your goal is to get more IP over time. You get 2x as much IP for winning than losing, making it worth it to surrender.

Surrendering has no other consequences other than the termination of the game resulting in a loss. If you win the game, you get more IP, or if the game goes longer (up to a cap, 55 minutes for SR), you get more IP. Cutting the game short will award a little less IP than sticking it out longer and losing, but there's no built-in surrender penalty.

That would make sense. But is there something else you lose if you surrender? My brother might have misunderstood what he was told and I should be able to clear things for him.
