Finding how many characters you used?

Is there a way to see how many letters {characters} your guide used? I want to know how close mine is to In depth.

Copy the entire guide into an MSword txt document.
I havent used those in a long time but they used to count words/characters used.
(which came in handy if you had to write essays that had an x amount of words ect)
