How to choose a good champion when you start LoL ?

    Hi !
I'm just starting LoL and I'm kind of stuck to the "Choose your champion" stage.
I do enjoy the couple games I made with Garen but I feel I don't give my team what a more advanced players would have give with the same champion.
Wtv, my question is : do you have any tips/tricks to choose a good starter champion ? How do I procede to choose it ?
    Thanks in advance ! :)

[Sorry for my english, french here]

    Hey.

You're pretty much just forced to play different champions until you have a grasp of what you'd like to play. I can try to point out a few champions from the champion rotation if you describe what you would like to do during the game. (Deal dmg, have range, be tanky, support others, etc..)

Play what you like to play! The learning curve for League is huge and the game doesn't really start until level 30, so just find some champs that appeal to you and play em to learn the game. The learning curve for LoL is pretty enjoyable.

Try the roles @TheSilverDust mentioned above before you settle in with a character. In other words, find a play style that suits you personally, and then attempt to find a character that fits that role. I'd like to suggest a couple characters to try for each role, while I'm here. 1. Solo Top- A typically good solo top, and my personal main, is Garen. He has a fairly easy play style and should be tried in this position. I would not suggest taking on the Jungle position until later on into the game (12+). Annie is typically a good, cheap, and efficient mid laner, try her there. Cheap carry's include Amumu tank, or possibly a Yi carry, and as an adc option, Ashe. There are a couple good supps, including Kayle. Hope this helps (:

I think it all comes down to our preferences. Every champions in League of Legends have different learning curves, according to their abilities and mechanics. I advise to you play different champions that are in the free champion rotation first. And if you like this specific champion, practice him/her a lot and buy it. I suggest that you should at least know one chmapion that could fit in one role or more. The roles that are often seen now are:

    1. Solo Top
    2. Jungler
    3. Solo Mid
    4. Carry
    5. Support

    I hope this helps!

Watch LCS and try and better your understanding of the game when you can. Play what's on champion select and figure out what you're good at, buy those champions and practice them a lot.
