Views: 1139 Thoughts of a Silver - Noobtraps and why they are noobtraps
|
Simple subject for this post. I'm going to be discussing a few semi-common noobtrabs:
Runaan's Hurricane,
Sword of the Divine,
Atma's Impaler,
Wriggle's Lantern, and the
Havoc
mastery.
Note: What follows are the opinions of a random Silver player. Feel free to whine and say I'm wrong because I'm Silver; I won't give a **** and will just laugh at you. Also don't ***** about the lack of coding, I couldn't be bothered.
Runaan's Hurricane: In theory, this seems like a good item. It is essentially a Tiamat for real ADCs. It gives plenty of attack speed and a nice AOE passive, which more than doubles your total DPS. The bolts even apply on-hit effects, which is a nice bonus. There are a few problems with it.
- No crit, so it is inferior to Phantom Dancer or Statikk Shiv on ADCs.
- Aside from the passive, it ONLY gives attack speed.
- The passive has 375 range; for reference, approximately all the gap closers have longer ranges.
The only champion you could ever consider Runaan's Hurricane on is
Teemo. He can't teamfight for **** so he has to splitpush, and Runaan's Hurricane lets him splitpush much more effectively. He already has short range, so it gives him stupid damage output if he's forced to teamfight.
---
Sword of the Divine: Just as with the other items on this list, SotD is good on paper. A nice amount of attack speed and a pretty good active. But, it has one major problem; it does nothing when it's on cooldown. If it wasn't for this, it would be fine.
Right now, it only works on
Twitch, derpy
Rengar builds and derpy
Malphite builds. Even then, Twitch has better options, and the others are derpy.
---
Atma's Impaler: Good in paper, bad in practice. Same stuff. It's the closest there is to a good AD+armor item. The problem is, it's a bruiser item with crit. Bruisers can't really make use of crit as well as ADCs can.
Atma's is much more useful than the other noobtrabs, but a noobtrap is a noobtrap. It's useful on
Olaf,
Sion, and
Dr. Mundo. The first two suck, and the latter is too busy stacking health and going where he pleases to build damage.
---
Wriggle's Lantern: I can't really think of much to say without driving myself into a fury because of my hatred of this item, so I'll keep it short. Wriggle's sucks, don't buy it ever ever EVER.
---
Havoc
: Quick, what's 2% of 1000? The answer is 20. This is the bonus damage if you get a 1k crit as an ADC. Don't get this ever please.
That's all for now. I'll be back whenever I feel like it with whatever topic I feel like writing a blog about.

A lot of people are bad at last hitting, so Butcher helps with that. 5% more damage to towers is still pretty bad, but it is at least slightly more noticeable.
Last hitting is a question of preferance: People find different champions easier to last hit with.
It's about the animations and the speed, which fits your style. Personally I like Viktor's very steady/strict AAs, and find Karthus' ones really akward.
Spellsword is a nice mastery for mid laners. Butcher is kinda optional. Also, that 5 AD/AP could win you a duel after ignites have been burned down.
There are no better alternatives for havoc, and that is why you SHOULD take it.
And with Talon, it actually adds up pretty nicely.
I dont see how they are any better. (well, summoners wrath I do, but everyone uses that anyway)

How dare you criticize my Rengar build.

I never buy wriggles on lee sin. I get madreds without finishing the item and sightstone instead
