"Maokai's strength in mid lane is denying farm from the enemy mid laner. He can do this because philo plus his passive makes him a beast in lane sustain. Once he gets catalyst, he only leaves if he's ganked, or he wants to.
The ultimate can turn around fights too. Especially because it adds a ton "

There's no incentive to max taunt other than the damage.
The energy cost doesn't go down with level anymore.
Cooldown only gets 2 seconds shorter at level 5 of it."

"Solotop is one of his strongest lanes probably now.
His taunt is still strong in bot lane and his jungle is okay but he's now really good top. Like, even better than before the patch."
