"Also you could try dropping forbidden idol, adjusting your rune page to compensate if necessary, and taking meditation in the cunning tree instead of merciless. If you value the mana sustain enough to build two regen items, wouldn't it make more sense to skip the Idol stepping stone in "

Tier 1 runes are not garbage, they cost almost nothing and still give SOME stats while you're leveling to 20. You can do without them though.
