Hello and welcome to the MOBAFire Patch Summary - 5.5!

It's been two weeks since Riot last released a patch, three months since they last decided to add a champion to League of Legends and ten months since a new champion they added was a support. Unfortunately, only one of those three facts will change tonight, as Riot have presented a new set of changes to be implemented in the game which does not yet include the introduction of Bard, the Wandering Caretaker.

Now, if you're not a fan of summaries and would rather read about every single detail instead, that intro should be enough to set you on your way; the full patch notes can be found here. If you are, however, stick with us! In this post, we will talk about some of the most significant buffs and nerfs to the 123 current champions in the game, new items, new skins and anything else we can think of. Let's go!

EDIT: Bard is released! - Looks a bit weird to feature Bard's portrait on the left and his abilities below considering he won't immediately be added once this patch is live, huh? Well, for the sake of those of you who have completely missed out on his reveal, we'll leave them here anyway so you can mouse over them and check out the kit of the champion that should be added to the game soonTM. Or, if you want to see it in action, check out his champion spotlight!

Anyway, on to some other champions then. As you can see in the table above, Riot is spreading the love in this patch, with a lot of (less popular) champions receiving some buffs / quality of life changes. Although there are too many to highlight them all, some of the more interesting ones include a power shift from Nautilus' Titan's Wrath to Riptide, Sona's Crescendo now costing 100 mana at all ranks and Xin Zhao receiving buffs on both Battle Cry & Audacious Charge, pushing him that much closer to viability.

However, amongst the love are a couple of nerfs to strong champions that simply needed to be addressed. Because of this, Lissandra's Ice Shard will now deal less damage, Nidalee should have a tougher time clearing some of the beefier jungle monsters following the removal of the %-health scaling on her Bushwhack, and Vi's movement speed and damage on her ultimate have both been reduced, too.

New Items! Replaced Items! Madness!

[NEW]
[ALSO NEW]
[REPLACEMENT]

Mid lane mains rejoice: the replacement of Deathfire Grasp is finally here! This new item (on the left) is called "Luden's Echo" and grants 120 Ability Power, 7% movement speed and a passive which works similarly to Statikk Shiv: you gain charges upon moving or casting, and once you reach 100 charges the next spell hit (not basic attack!) expends all charges to deal bonus magic damage to up to 4 targets. Obviously, mobile AP champions or champions which cast spells regularly ( Karthus, anyone?) should be able to benefit from this the most.

That's not all that is new though, as "Bami's Cinder" (middle) will be introduced as a new jungle item mainly designed for tank junglers. This item will build from a Ruby Crystal - which, not surprisingly, means it will grant health - and has a passive which deals magic damage to nearby enemies, with the damage to minions and monsters being amplified by 50%. This should help some of the slow tanky junglers with their early and mid game jungle clears, boosting their viability.

Bami's Cinder is also a component for the "Cinderhulk Enchantment" (as seen in the Stalker's Blade on the right), which will replace the current Enchantment: Juggernaut. Note that - at the time of release of this post - this new enchantment and these two new items are not in the MOBAFire database quite yet; this will be resolved as soon as possible.

Free! To! Play!

Of course, a champion release wouldn't be the same without a release skin, which is why it should come as no surprise to anyone that this patch includes a fresh Bard skin, Elderwood Bard . This skin will be available upon release for 975 RP.

On top of that, Riot will be adding to two collections of skins in this patch, with Xin Zhao joining Miss Fortune's secret agency while Akali is the fifth champion in the league to receive a Headhunter skin, after Master Yi, Rengar, Nidalee and Caitlyn. These skins will become available at some point during this patch for a price of 975 RP / 1350 RP respectively.

Praise! Criticism! Discussion!

There are still a significant set of changes we didn't get to discuss within this post (most notably some global changes to turrets and jungle monsters), but for now we're wrapping this post up. Refer to the full patch notes (link in the introduction) if you wish to find out more about that.

With that said, we're putting the spotlight on you guys. Are you sad about having to wait for Bard, the Wandering Caretaker? Which of the champions you play have been affected by the buffs and nerfs in this patch, and what are your thoughts on Riot's decision to make this set of changes? Will you be trying out any of the new items, or do they look underwhelming to you? As always, feel free to let us know in the comments below!

Sorry I couldn't resist the slight comparison

but I am most looking forward to the the Veigar changes since I have been doing really well with him in Aram, and I have been rolling him fairly frequently

Hey, any idea when Luden's Echo will be added to the item list of the 'Build' section of the guide? I see that it's in the general database now but at the moment I can't find it in the item list to update my core build for the cheat sheet.
I can't take back the words I never said

In WTFDTDTMC, about Nautilus, isn't it more a "mixed" than a "buff"?

It's intended to be a buff, at least (Scarizard commented on that). I'm not always sure what to put in front of some of the names though, this was a tough one :P

Bard looks like Totoro from "My neighbour Totoro", but with a beard.

For Titan's Wrath I think I would call it a mixed change or perhaps a power shift.

Shield strength - base shield strength goes down but % of health ratio on the damage goes up.

Shield damage over time - stays the same (both base damage and ratio)

So it will be easier to break his shield early game, but tank wise it will scale better for mid and late game. It is going to be less effective to start with in terms of clearing, because the shield will be easier to break unless you pack a lot of health into your build via runes (a hard sell since MS quints are practically a necessity on Naut). However this will be offset to some extent by the lowering of the damage from the neutral monster camps.

Riptide - made it spammable.

I'm happy with this change as Riptide was IMO Naut's most underwhelming ability in that the missile velocity was slow enough that anyone with boots could simply walk out of it without effect unless you set it off right next to them and it was hell on your mana pool. Now you can use it earlier and more often thanks to the lowering of the cooldown and mana costs.

;tldr - early clearing power shifted to Riptide. Shield strength buffed for mid and late game. Naut should be better at the things he does best, ganking and tanking, and get to the ganking part faster.

"per stack of crystal energy"

Since when was that added to Skarner?

BTW: Titan's Wrath got its damage reduced but the early % HP bonus increased.

Oh, and did you know that Taric jungle is back? :D
