BigBoxGamer, this is your chance to leave the argument from the other thread behind and actually contribute to a civil discussion. If you can't do that, please don't post in this one so other people can actually talk without the thread being locked.

Why not just postban him if he's the one actively trying to cause arguments?

As far as I know, logicalincrements is outdated and should be taken with grain of salt.

There should be specific fields you need to fill when writing request for pc configuration, something like /r/buildapc and /r/builapcforme.

I think these should do:
1) What is your budget, do you mind build going over the budget for significant performance gains?
2) What are you intending to do with that pc? Gaming (what games), general use, graphic desing, or task requiring high processing power.
3) Do you have any requests for your build, for example do you want specific colour theme?
4) Have you got old hardware that you are planning to reuse in your build?

Those are couple of guidelines from top of my head.

There's always place for reform.

While he does hold an opinion that is different from the majority, the fact that he defended himself so truly at least means that he's passionate about the subject. And if he's passionate about the subject, then wouldn't it be a shame to not let him post?

I would like to chat, but the AMD morons will be here.

TIL trying to start an argument by calling other people morons out of nowhere is defending your opinion. :^)

He's passionate... He's passionate...He keeps telling himself...

EDIT: A good offense is the best defense.

No, no, no.
That is not defending himself. That is shouting his opinion in others faces and then telling them to **** off if they disagree.

Kindly stop bringing him up in this thread, I was hoping we'd steer clear of more stupid ****.

Now, onto some actually useful stuff!

I'd like to comment on the current Intel, Nvidia and AMD architectures.
AMD's current GPU architecture is called GCN and it was introduced in early 2012. It's now over 3 years old and quite inefficient compared to Nvidia's Maxwell architecture, which was released just last year and into this year. AMD does make a few improvements as they release new cards with the same architecture, but eventually the old horse just can't keep up anymore, regardless of how good you take care of him.
And AMD's CPU architecture is even worse off. Bulldozer is incredibly far behind Intel's offerings in terms of efficiency. Bulldozer is still being made with a 32nm(nanometer) process. Intel's Broadwell, released last year, is made with a 14nm process. That's about (you can't compare the numbers directly) half the transistor size and makes for incredible differences in efficiency and die sizes.
And the process differences are not all, the architecture itself is a lot less efficient too. Combine the two and there's a monumental difference in efficiency. Unless you're planning on overclocking for a cheap buck I'd really suggest getting an Intel CPU.

There is light at the end of the tunnel however. In 2016 AMD will be making a jump to a completely new architecture called Zen AND to 14nm. That should put them right back in competition with Intel on the CPU market.
The GPU market is looking less bright, but they will be introducing one new card with the 300 series(the rest are old stuff). AMD is pioneering HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) for what they are calling "Fiji"(probably gonna be called 390 or 390X). It's gonna mean an incredible jump in memory bandwidth and much more effective use of space (the card will be really tiny). Roughly double the bandwidth of the Nvidia Titan X along with a big jump in memory efficiency. It looks like AMD will be taking the "World's fastest GPU" title back soon (summer according to rumors).
The card isn't especially relevant to us normal mortals however since the price will likely be close to that of the Titan.

Relevant to IPodPulse and other people in the thread looking to buy a good cheap-ish graphics card: I'd recommend getting a GTX 970. That's a fantastic card for a very good price. It keeps up with AMD's aggressive pricing (price/performance) while providing much more efficient operation.
The main reason to consider AMD cards right now would be if you're planning on getting a Free-Sync screen. But those are pretty rare so far and will be more relevant in a few years.
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT 1GB

Holy ****, that's ancient.
You might be able to get some more life out of your CPU(+RAM+MB), but even that's sketchy. Overclocking would probably allow it if you're up for that sort of thing.
But as stated: you might wanna get a whole new package, especially if you don't wanna overclock.
You should be able to re-use your PSU, case and HDDs for the new PC though, so you don't have to throw away everything.

Oooo, cool site. I like it.

That's a tad depressing. Could someone direct me to a good site to buy cheaper parts? I'm on a budget but do want an upgrade from what I have.

Well, not exactly sure. I'd like to get the parts in a few months and I can only save about 100$ a week.

So probably in the 1000-1500$ range.

That's plenty enough for a great PC.

I threw together a little setup here:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zKf6Vn

It's about 900$ for the essentials.
An SSD seems like the logical choice if you can just transfer over your old HDD.
Those parts should last you many years and even allow for a GPU upgrade since the CPU is quite powerful and can be overclocked.

I also added a couple of other parts in case you might want to upgrade any of them. I don't know of your current gear however, so I can't make an objective judgement on whether those upgrades are needed. What screen/PSU/case/headphones have you currently got?
