Ludens will probably still be able to proc off your passive I think.
Another thing about runeglaive is if the aoe last hits multiple minions you get bonus gold for all of them. I'm not sure if that's supposed to help or not but 50 more gold every wave isn't bad, considering how hard it is to push you out of lane.
I laned against a challenger trying it out last week, honestly it felt more like an annoyance than anything viable until 3-4 items.

Isn't AP Ezreal also just an annoyance until later in the game? Or Kog'Maw? Don't all poke champs work like that? Of course, I think they spike 1 item earlier because their build in offensive AP ratios are higher, but for that GP is way safer. A GP in lane can't be ever killed or ganked if playing safe. And GP is especially strong against those poke champs as he can just outsustain their damage and deal good poke on his own. One more thing he is strong at is taking turrets with your team, as your ult zones enemies away from turrets or opens easy dives. He isn't skill shot reliant like the others.
His passive doesn't proc spell effects, only his ultimate and the Smite.

Yeah, but the difference is they have at least 2-3x GP's damage at a much greater range and they spike faster as well. All GP has is sustain and an (arguably) better 1-5.
People are most likely just playing it because it's fun as hell.
Sustain is important if you want to counter poke (remember, TSM vs GV), so GP is basically a poke champ that counters enemy poke champs, making him a strong counter against those extremly popular picks right now, while still having a similar playstyle.

Who will know how well W, E and R will scale with AP.^^ But his passive kinda tells me that he will be best played tanky to constantly proc that passive.
Seemed like the powder kegs did physical damage, but that might have been from his pistol exploding it.
Edit: they are physical damage, and it seems like they went for the "oranges heal more when GP is hurt" thing instead of the high *** AP ratio.
Sad to say, Nickname, but AP GP may be dead.

Statistics don't lie, AP GP is rising.
