You won't be placed at the top - you'd be placed, if you're lucky, back where you started. Especially since high ELO players' MMR really takes a hit from the MMR reset.

That's the point though, you shouldn't really be getting placed in the exact same spot; new season, new start. The fact that it's a soft reset rather than a hard reset is mainly for balance reasons and so your progress in the past season doesn't *completely* go to waste. But it is meant to be a new start for everyone. New season, new changes, new game, new ladder.

Nah, it's to make sure not everyone starts out in the same place; that used to be the case, and lower rated players would just not play for like the first few weeks because they'd get matched with former Platinum and Diamond players.

I get it, but for casual me it'll be another painful crusade for the victorious skin. That might change this season with the dynamic queue though, who knows.

They want every one to have a soft reset and have to prove they're that good. The point of the higher tiers are to show you're top players of that season.
