Current step: Skill Discussion - http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/forum/champion-and-item-ideas/cac-1-part-3a-skill-concept-discussion-3713

Back when I was a member of Smogon, they had a thing called "CAP", standing for "Create-A-Pokemon". As we all know, Pokemon has a huge competitive member pool and there are many fine nuances of the game that end up determining a lot. CAP 1 for Generation 5 has just started over on Smogon; if anyone is interested, here's the link:
http://www.smogon.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=66

But yeah, I was wondering whether it would be possible for our humble little MOBAFire community to participate in a project similar to this. The steps would be identical or almost identical to Smogon's process:

1. Nominate and pick a Topic Leader
2. Submit concepts, vote on them, pick a final concept for the idea.
3. Vote on style - ranged AD, AP, melee AD, jungle, tank, support, etc
4. Submit concept ideas for skills - we need concepts for all five skills before starting the champion.
5. Submit specific ideas for each skill that fit the concept
6. Vote on skill submissions
7. Vote on base stats
8. Try to get artwork, if possible - this would be the most difficult step, by far.
9. Choose recommended items
10. Possibly create builds for each champion.

The whole process, I would estimate, takes around a month to a month and a half. But the exciting part of this is that we could submit our ideas to Riot and possibly have our own champion implemented!

I'm posting this now to see if anyone would take interest in participating. The most difficult problem that I foresee is that we have a much smaller member pool than Smogon - even their CAP 1 had over 100 members involved, while CAC 1 would probably have only the 20-30 regulars to this forum actively participating.

If there is enough interest in this, we would have to do a lot more activity, perhaps getting memberships on the League of Legends forum and the Leaguecraft forums and spreading the word. I think that this would be a really cool idea for us to take on, and would also help with overall membership and activity.

What are your thoughts? I'd also like admin approval if we were to go through with this idea.

EDIT: Probably what the finalized process is going to be is something like this:

Concept Discussion (What do we want our champion to do? What niche will him/her have?)
Concept Nomination and Voting (Pick a final concept to build upon)
Discuss Playstyle (Carry, Caster, Tank, Support, Melee)
Vote for Playstyle (Self-explanatory)
Discuss Concepts for Skills Only (What we want his skills to do to fit his role in the game)
Vote on Concepts
Make Skills More Specific (Fine-tune them, get numbers right down to the grain)

Vote On Final Skills (This is the hardest part. I don't know if we want to vote on complete sets of 5 skills or if we'll vote on each skill individually.)

Base Stat Submission
Base Stat Voting
Concept Art Discussion (Throw ideas around)
Concept Art Submission
Concept Art Voting
Name (I'm not sure if this would be before or after concept art voting.)
Flavor Text (Lore, recommended items, jokes, taunts, sayings)
Final Product

In that particular order. If anyone has suggestions, disagreements, or general comments about this procedure, post it.

So that's why the title was so familiar.

I think it'd certainly be a very interesting concept and I'd be glad to participate in whateverwhich way I can if this were to go underway :)

I think this would be great but I don't think we have that many artist for the concept part of the champion, unless we have a lot of secret artist who don't participate in the Signature/GFX forum, we might need to advertise this.

I would participate but unfortunately the only thing I can do as far as GFX goes is render stocks and create signatures or desktop backgrounds :[ I have no free hand skills what so ever.

I has art skillz, and I haz enjoyz concept artz.

For me though I've been really busy, and depending on how interested I am in the champ would probably change if I'm willing to devote time to making arts. No I can't make a good detailed painting, but I think I could do concept art no problem (time allowing).

If you don't trust me here's my arts: http://xxmowenxx.deviantart.com/

Awesome. The art might not become a reality, but if we get enough people, it could be. Arguably, creating a LoL champion is much more difficult in artistic terms than a pixelated Pokemon.

The art portion of this would just be concept art then.

By the way, Sin, you could definitely also participate in other parts of the project.

If this was to become a reality, we might even have a spot on the front page for it, just to attract attention.

But yeah, if this does work, we'd need to spread the word on other forums as well.

HOLY ****! TRU left the signature forum!

*Cough*

Back on topic; Having the front page advertise for it would be awesome, and sharing it on the official forums could attract Riot's attention, and PERHAPS one of the Champs would become reality.
