You're not making your point clear and acting all defensive on me.
I'm guessing you think of replacing one item with another, but since that's a terrible idea (every item has its niche and is more useful in it than any other item) I gave you the benefit of the doubt to explain whatever else you could be trying to say.

Why would you replace an item with an active for another? Even without using their actives most items are worth their price over others. And in the cases where they're not worth it if you don't use their actives, you may not be able to "patch" that specific need with other item.
Now if you're doing it for entertainment purposes, I'd change Turbo Chemtank for Dead Man's Plate (for the movespeed) and Zhonya's Hourglass for Abyssal Mask or maybe Rylai's Crystal Scepter (for the survivability).

It makes absolutely ZERO sense to replace items with an active. The active is there FOR SOMETHING...

Yea, like Ekki is saying, you can't really replace active items in a build. The active items are bought for their active and not usually much else.
Maw gives MR like merc scim, yes. But it doesn't give the CC removing active that's really damn important sometimes.
Athenes in no way replaces crucible, again, because of the CC removal. IT gives similar stats, sure, but the active is the main reason you get it.
If you're listing things for people that are just bad at using actives on items, I have one piece of advice. Just get good at the game. Learn to use actives. It's just how the game is right now.

I know some people that had trouble getting used to active items so they preferred to replace those items with actives rather than using these active items, which is not a good way of going imo. Some items can simply not be replaced with others because their functionality is completely different, so I do recommend just learning to press the 1-4 buttons by learning active-dependant champions like supports.
