I tried them all, DEWO. So far AS/Crit gave me the best results. I did:
Doran's Blade
Zeal
Ionian Boots of Lucidity
Phantom Dancer (YES! Phantom Dancer. It works on this guy.)
Infinity Edge
Youmuu's Ghostblade
And I didn't get longer into the item sequence cause six times in a row the team surrendered >_>.
As for defensive, I've tried what you said; Banshee's and Frozen Mallet. Didn't really help much, right? Banshee > Mallet in my opinion, though. In all fairness, I think defensive items is overrated on this guy. He can backdoor like a boss though! Pop ultimate before you're in view of the tower, and whack that **** into oblivion :D

i've faced heavy stun steams with heavy AoE. And i looked for some surv, any kind of CC will purely screw up Noct if you can survive the innitial REQ burst.

After the nerf BV isn't that good anymore. I'd probably get a GA instead(not 100% sure tho). Hexdrinker is a decent option too, I guess.

That might be VERY viable since i start of with a Long Sword anyway. I have to test out this tonight.
Decent for AD and MR passivly, and that shield passive is good for getting a gank drawback on your ***.
