I really want to learn Vi BUT im too dumb to read all of this, anyone down to coach me?

Hey, thanks for the guide! I wanted to ask if Spear of Shojin is any good on Vi, but then I tested it and realized that W doesn't add to the stacks. Still, what do you think about this item?
2
Fruxo (349) | January 29, 2026 7:17am
It used to be an okay item back in the days, but then they nerfed the item quite a bit. Before you'd usually run Spear of Shojin for the ability haste, that stat has practically been removed from the item entirely and the basic ability haste passive only affecting your regular abilities (not your ultimate) isn't enough to justify the cost of the item.

Also again like you mentioned, you only get SoS stacks via your abilities, basic attacks (even ones garnered by Denting Blows) give no stack progression. Overall I've always felt this item to just be clunky to use on her, there's almost always just a better option to pick from in my opinion.

I am greatfull for your guide it has been really helpfull, however I have a question if terminus is an alternative for black cleaver or it can not work at all
1
Fruxo (349) | November 6, 2025 9:32am
I would say not really. Terminus just doesn't provide anything beneficial to Vi, which is why nobody really builds it. At the same time the only time you would build it, other armor pen items would just do that better. Even Lord Dominik's Regards would probably benefit you more and that item by itself is also pretty niche.

Hello! Very informative guide, but i have a few comments:
1. Why no Spirit Visage in recommendation for magic resistance in item pool section? For me this item far better than Kaenic Rookern. All stats are welcome and it's so helpful for Blast Shield, Sundered Sky and Sterak's Gage. Ignoring this item is unacceptable for me.
2. Are you sure that Legend: Haste more helpful than Legend: Alacrity? Legend: Alacrity more useful in jungle clearing and focus at objectives.
3. I don't agree with you in comment below. Shield Bash has well synergy with Vi. It scales with all items that you build if not in every game but most games. In very active gameplay you can receive enormous numbers of damage, which may also pleasantly surprise you. It's not a matter of personal preference or tankiness here, but how well Shield Bash interacts with Vi. In S15 Shield Bash/ Revitalize are good option for Vi.

Fruxo (349) | February 1, 2025 7:56am
- Spirit Visage ends up with the same problem as Kaenic Rookern has, which is that nobody builds them, at all, and on the off chance they do then they choose rookern instead. The only purpose these items have is to give you magic resist, so spending 200g more to get +30 more magic resist with Kaenic Rookern is just the better choice. There's almost no reason anymore to run visage at all. "All stats are welcome" just doesn't matter when the core reason either item is bought is for the MR, of which visage just gives far less. Rookern gives more and has a magic shield, helping even further for the difference of 200g.

- As of this new patch I can actually change it back to Alacrity again. Legend: Alacrity and Legend: Haste has very similar pick rates and winrates, people use them equally as much if it's to have the rune together with Conqueror. If you're running Hail of Blades where Precision is secondary, Alacrity will always be the dominant choice.

- I just don't believe this at all. If Shield Bash & Revitalize has good synergies with her, scales with all items she builds, gives you enormous numbers of damage and interacts well with her, then that would reflect in people picking the runes, which they don't. In S15, the most dominant primary trees for her is Precision with Conqueror and Domination with Hail of Blades, Resolve here isn't picked whatsoever, it's not even a consideration. The only place is secondary runes and for there they're picked so little that almost any other rune Vi can build is better and picked more. It's definitely a matter of personal preference as everyone who plays her would rather run Inspiration or Domination with their Conq tree or run Precision for their HoB tree. These runes aren't ever picked whatsoever so it's extremely unlikely that they're as good as you say they are. The purpose isn't for tankiness either which is what I mentioned in the comment below as well, they're good coupled with the right champions that can heal and shield you, otherwise they serve no purpose.

This is without a doubt the best guide I've seen on this site, Thank you. I was curious what you thought about shield bash/revitalize as secondary runes for a shield-based build. Maybe with Eclipse first item.
1
Fruxo (349) | January 30, 2025 6:13pm
I don't have Resolve secondary as an option for any rune page just notably because it's not something anyone's running on Vi at all aside from sometimes. I think if you're playing with a team that can provide a lot of shields or healing (e.g. enchanters), this option can have merit. If not however, you're not really going to be getting that much from these runes. Blast Shield does help in granting shields but it feels pointless to run it just for shield value and ignoring the fact Revitalize plays off of healing as well.

With Eclipse there can potentially be a build going, but then comes what to run it into, and personally I don't really see a team comp or matchup where you need to be tankier or need to have more shields, so I'd say it comes to preference there.

Planning to add in matchups soon so don't worry, just a bit of a process. 🙂

Hello! Very well-made guide, my friend!

What do you think about the new Trinity Force on Vi? I think it's great because it allows for big bursts while also being great in extended fights. If you ever need sustain, the new Bloodthirster might actually be a good option, because it gives A TON of lifesteal while also providing great damage while full hp.

Let me know what you think! Best of luck!
1
Fruxo (349) | June 9, 2023 11:05am
I don't believe Trinity Force is as good of an item as it once used to be - compared to people currently playing Vi during this patch, almost everyone is still running Divine Sunderer as it's still the stronger choice.

As for Bloodthirster - it definitely is a well made item for lifesteal/damage, however its bonuses are pretty lost on a melee champion like Vi. Most of the times you'll see this item being used on ranged champions because proccing the lifesteal is far easier on someone who can damage from afar. I just really do not believe the damage while >50% HP is more worth the 3200g price tag than to just build another item of similar gold value that gives you many other stats that are more worth.

New Vi player here. Ive pretty much just been following the most popular build for Vi on u.gg most of my games which is Chempunk into radiant virtue. I noticed this guide doesnt have that build. What are your thoughts on the build? Should I avoid it?
Thanks in advance.
2
Fruxo (349) | February 22, 2023 7:01pm
Currently going to make changes soon to include the new Radiant Virtue build as it's very popular this patch as of the recent changes made to the items. Personally the build is very good, the only time where it isn't is if you're against an enemy team that doesn't have many melee champions. It's very hard to make full use of radiant's abilities if you aren't clumped together and can just get poked from afar.
1
luvs2spooge | February 23, 2023 1:07am
Thanks good to know. So should I always go radiant virtue into melee comps or should I sometimes go divine? Also what do you think about starting Black cleaver considering the buffs it got?

do you think at this point in time especially since jak sho was nerfed that assassin vi is better or regular bruiser vi?
1
Fruxo (349) | January 18, 2023 8:09pm
Honestly a bit debatable. Divine Sunderer is still the current most popular and strongest item on her, however it does not mean that assassin Vi is weak.

Hi Fruxo! One backup guide review coming right up.

Cheat Sheet:
Runes:
Items:
  • You didn't include a Stealth Ward under STARTING ITEMS.
  • Your smite choices are based on how squishy a target is. That can be kind of true if you're playing more of a one shot kind of build, but for more general purposes, Stalker's Blade is better against champions who can kite you, while Skirmisher's Sabre is better for champions that can duel you. Master Yi for example, is a champ you would take Skirmisher's Sabre against, even if he is squishy.
  • You say Dead Man's Plate and Guardian Angel are both situational, in which case I would just put them both under SITUATIONAL ITEMS and I would put Sterak's Gage under CORE ITEM.
  • I would just remove the set groups that you have included. They don't feel intuitive and are just cluttering your cheat sheet.
  • While I do think that having more situational items are better, they have to be worth building in different situations. I don't see any situation where you would build Turbo Chemtank over Dead Man's Plate, for example.
  • Lethality items probably aren't worth building once you start getting to the mid-late game. Which would be when you start buying them according to the guide. I would just remove them altogether.
  • For your full build, I would replace Guardian Angel with Adaptive Helm, since most teams tend to have mixed damage, and having no magic resistance is a bad idea.

Presentation:
  • Guide was pretty clean and easy to read for the most part, it brought comfort to my eyes. However, the runes section started getting hard to read, as the information didn't flow very well. recommend looking at other guides to see how they handle multiple keystones.
  • The images you used under Teamfights, Early Game and Late Game are quite the eye sore and don't fit in well with the rest of the guide's aesthetics.
  • Bonus points for using Asian text on your headers with the Warrior Kingdoms Vi skin. It matches the theme. I wonder what the text means though, please let me know :P
  • There are grammatical mistakes every here and there. Proof-reading your guide is an excellent way of getting rid of those buggers.

Runes:
  • How does Electrocute compare to Hail of Blades in very quick short trades? I know Hail of Blades is obviously the better choice for extended trades, but what if you only had the time to do a quick combo before the enemy uses Flash or another mobility skill? I'm not exactly sure, since I don't play Vi but it might be worth mentioning when Electrocute can be a better option than Hail of Blades. If it never is, then there's no reason to have it in the guide in the first place right?
  • I still think Eyeball Collection is better than Zombie Ward, especially in a solo queue environment.
  • Is Cheap Shot really another option? They're both strictly "more damage" runes, so in the end, it just comes down to which does more damage. If Sudden Impact out-damages Cheap Shot, then just remove Cheap Shot altogether.
  • Triumph does not restore 12% of your health, but 12% of your missing health.
  • Legend: Alacrity is not a bad choice with Hail of Blades. It increases your clear speed, since Hail of Blades doesn't work in the jungler, and it still helps you fight for when it goes on cooldown.
  • As I mentioned before, Conditioning is better than Bone Plating for junglers. If you need Bone Plating for ganks, you made a mistake.
  • Might want to mention why you take armor stat shard for the reader. Just quickly mention that it helps you stay healthy in the jungler since most monsters do physical damage.

Abilities:
  • Blast Shield also activates when you use Relentless Force.
  • I would give a bit of advice on how to better land Vault Breaker. You could mention holding the ability for a few more moments to study the enemy's movement before using it, rather than immediately using the ability as soon as the enemy is in range. Bonus points if you include clips that show an example of this.
  • I would change Relentless Force's description from being an auto attack cancel generator to an auto attack reset. This would help readers understand its synergy with Hail of Blades. Better yet, I would mention the synergy yourself in the guide. Hint: Two auto resets and on-hit effects.
  • Cease and Desist can crowd control more than one target. I would want to mention how you can use that to your advantage.

Items:
  • Elixir of Wrath isn't just for getting as a last item. You can also get this before a last teamfight that decides the game.
  • You listed situational items but didn't mention which situation you should get them in. Try to talk more about the item outside of just its tool-tip the same way you did with Mortal Reminder.

Gameplay:
Early Game:
  • You talk pretty well about how Vi's abilities work here However, this isn't the right place to talk about it. This is where you want to talk about objective control, ganking, scuttle contesting, etc.

Mid Game & Late Game:
  • There's a lot more you can talk about in this section, especially for late game. You can expand more on taking down objectives, getting baron control for example, and how to effectively pull split-push.
  • Also wanted to point out that Nasus is strongest in the mid game, not late game :P

Jungle Routes & Counter Jungling:
  • I like the graphics you used here. Pretty infortmative.
  • I would talk more about lane priority in the counter jungling section. Wouldn't want to get collapsed on by the enemy laners now would we.

Overextending:
  • Just wanted to point out that you got the safe and overextended part mixed up, green is where the enemy is safe and red is where the gank is most likely to succeed.

Wave Management:
  • Kudos to you for having this section. It's a pretty important one.

Matchups:
Overall, you do have one of the more detailed on the site, which is why I think your guide could be really solid if you continue working on it.

Fruxo (349) | May 25, 2019 3:52am
Cheat Sheet:
I think i got everything in this section, also the reason why i chose zombie ward is because it benefits the whole team, as well as ravenous because it gives you healing, but looking at it now i’ve considered changing it, so they are just situationals now depending on what the player prefers.

Presentation & Runes:
I actually just completely removed Electrocute as i couldn’t really find a good situation to pick it, if you want to play safe or get extra survivability, you’d go Aftershock, and if you want more damage as well as attack speed you’d go Hail of Blades, so yeah. I agree that the pictures are bad, but i can’t currently find any that actually looks nice, so technically you could say that these are just temporary until i find some good ones. I’ve also changed the runes section now, removed some of the runes that you requested as well as added the new ones i missed that are useful like Unflinching for example. Hopefully it’s a bit easier to read! Also, i actually don’t know what the asian texts on the banners means, Jovy came up with the idea when she created them and so if you want to know you’ll have to ask her. :P

Abilities, Items & Gameplay:
I should have all of this covered now, except the clips showing the abilities, still working on those! I’ve tried to clear any possible grammatical errors throughout the guide from my knowledge, if you still see some that i’ve missed then feel free to PM me about them and i’ll get them fixed, i’m not the best at english but i definitely try my best.

Matchups:
Going to be honest, I wrote all of the matchups from memory and how i’ve experienced them from my own games, but i’ve fixed the errors now so hopefully it should be fine! One problem is really with Cho'Gath as you can build a whole lot of different runes with him in the Jungle, and they all synergize really well tbh. Although i put in Glacial Augment there instead, I think it’s the most common one.

Thank you a whole lot for the detailed review, feel free to read through the whole guide again if you want as i’ve changed stuff.
