First of all, Hades is running the contest but not the judging. He wasn't involved in the decision of which guides won. Your problem is with me. In the vast majority of cases I respect the judges' decision, except when it conflicts with some aspect of the contest itself (like having each author win only once per contest).
You're correct that we didn't do a good job communicating the rules around reworked champs like Pantheon. I've run several of these contests over the years and we've never had a champion be reworked before the contest results were posted. I didn't realize until the day before the results were finalized that there was a pre-rework champion guide in the winners list. This means I had to make the decision right then in order to get the contest results out.
One of the main goals of the MOBAFire contest is to reward guide authors that create and update content that's useful to readers. It's for both authors and the community at large, since a lot of people check out the winning guides once the contest winners are posted. This means every winner has to be checked for outdated or inaccurate content to give people the best selection of guides possible.
I felt that it was against the spirit of the contest to include a guide that was so outdated (due to being pre-rework) that it was completely useless to the community.
I realize this decision wasn't due to a written rule so it's understandably not obvious why this happened. In the future the contest rules will be adjusted to make this contingency clear.
I expect that's not going to be a satisfying answer since you're still short a prize. I'll talk to my boss this week to see if we have any extra room in the budget for one more winner.

I sent you a PM but just in case you see it here first (or if anyone else was curious), I got approval to increase the budget for this contest by 1 winner. In the future we'll make sure to have clearer rules to cover this kind of contingency. Keep an eye on your email for a message from Hades with more prizing info.
