What do you think to buy Doran's Blade as first or as a first back item?
1
PH45 (39) | October 31, 2020 4:57am
Doran's Blade is totally fine as first back item since it helps your laning a lot with the HP, AD and lifesteal. I wouldn't start with it since Corrupting Potion is still key component of your early laning but as first back item totally fine.

Thoughts on sudden impact irelia? I thought the rune would work well with her since her bread and butter ability is her Q which is a dash. Is it worth giving up the early game healing?

PH45 (39) | September 16, 2020 1:53am
Sure it can work, but I think overall I personally still prefer Inspiration secondary instead of Domination for the added lane phase power. The small amount of lethality and magic pen isn't imo that worth on Irelia.

Is a good idea build frozen heart insted of sterak's?
2
PH45 (39) | May 28, 2020 6:14am
Those 2 items accomplish different things. In some situations sure, but I personally like Sterak's Gage more since it gives you HP and the shield active. Frozen Heart is good into fighters that you want to reduce AS from, but then again Thornmail accomplishes the same thing with healing reduce. If you need the mana and CDR then Frozen Heart is good, but otherwise I think there are better options.

What are your thoughts on the BORTK buffs do you think Irelia should start building BORTK first now?

PH45 (39) | March 14, 2020 1:30pm
Don't think Blade of the Ruined King is a first item in any situation for Irelia. She still get's a really important power spike from Tiamat and Trinity Force, and those shouldn't be skipped/delayed. I don't even think Blade of the Ruined King is a must buy every game, but it certainly is now a more attractive buy since it got buffed.

It's really good buy right now though into some popular picks like Darius, Garen and Sett since you'll be able to slow them down and tear their HP bar up, so it might be a worthwhile pick into those matchups if you aren't in need of tankiness during mid game.

Does the items work on midlane too? (btw im a new lol player)
2
PH45 (39) | February 1, 2020 3:01am
The items do work for midlane. Irelia's core still remains the same, although early MR items against magic damage are good options in some cases. Wit's End is a great item for her, and against burst and early Hexdrinker might be a good option. Other than that Trinity Force is extremely important powerspike for her and Tiamat too since it's an important part about her waveclear.

Hi PH47! I have a very important question to ask- as you know building something like sustain or lifesteal or any item that helps you win in a long fight for example thornmail helps deal dmg when inflicted dmg from basic attacks... these items wont be useful in a teamfight with burst mage champs and good dmg assasins.. I struggle very hard in teamfights even with steraks gage and titanic hydra- i have no escapes once i go in and even if i wait after using R they obliterate my team and make me want to go in only to die from their insane dmg.. How do i survive in these types of teamfights- and what if the team matchup is mixed with burst mages, assasins or juggernauts or good marksmens.. how do i win a teamfight.. Thank you Btw loved your guide keep it up!

Hello!

It's hard to answer this kind of question as it differs for every game, but you should itemize depending on which champions are strong. If the enemy has a high burst AP-mage like Syndra, consider maybe building Maw of Malmortius instead of Sterak's Gage. Against assassins consider picking up Guardian Angel at some point since it allows you to return to the fight a second time in case you are focused first.

Also consider trying out Death's Dance. It's an offensive item with a defensive side. The bleed passive allows you to heal back up in some cases where you'd normally die. This item combined with Spirit Visage makes you really hard to kill if you can just get damage in on your opponents.

Other than that I can't really say much since there isn't a build that fits all cases. As Irelia you sometimes have to accept that you will die in a teamfight but you can make a big difference with your E and R so you should still look to group unless your team absolutely has no chances of winning teamfights, in which case you look to split.

hello, this is a great guide to Irelia helps alot! I would like to know your thoughts on the new item sanguine blade and if its a viable option for irelia in the top lane. The item has some nice stats and the top lane is usually always a 1v1 so should i rush it as first item or after tiamat or just not buy it at all?
1
PH45 (39) | November 30, 2019 4:58am
I personally don't like the item as a whole since it really forces you into the splitpush tactic. If you want to teamfight the value of the item is brought down big time.

It might be alright on Irelia if you actually only want/have to splitpush and match an opponent, but otherwise I think there are better options as an item for Irelia. She doesn't really utilize Lethality too well and her ult anyways is a bit of a teamfighty ult so she really brings value to teamfights.

If you are planning to go it in a game, I'd say you go it after Trinity Force. Either as second item or after Tiamat, although again everything is situational. Definitely not as first item though.

Hey, thanks for the great guide!! One question I have is when would you want to rush a Tiamat? And when would you rush a Tri-Force?? Since Irelia has pretty good wave clear with her Q already. Thanks!

PH45 (39) | November 13, 2019 10:55am
Hello!

On Irelia I feel Tiamat is really good since you can just push waves so insanely fast after that. You can roam easily or just keep your enemy laner in lane if the situation requires so. Also you can get a stack of Conqueror with it so you get it up even faster.

You can delay Tiamat though for faster Trinity Force powerspike. Sometimes you aren't required Tiamat early but overall I feel Tiamat is core for Irelia.

Hi, maybe I am missing something but at the top it shows you are using Inspiration as the secondary tree. And down in your explanations it says you go with sorcery. And speaks nothing about the Inspiration decision which is different from what I have seen thus far. I am curious which one you actually go with now. And if you are just starting out what would be the best choice in your experience?

PH45 (39) | August 11, 2019 11:47pm
Hello! That's my bad entirely.

I think I updated the runes somewhere last month but I forgot to update the runes explanation. Fixed it now though!

Both secondary trees are fine. I originally liked Sorcery due to Nullifying Orb helping with clutch situations. It can occasionally save you since it's kind of a mini Hexdrinker. Transcendence is a great choice on scaling champions since the CDR is really beneficial, and if you go over the cap it just translates to more damage.

That being said I feel Inspiration is the more friendly way to go especially if you are starting out since the runes are more ''forgiving''. Both Biscuit Delivery and Time Warp Tonic offer sustaining tools and also some help for trading which definitely helps during lane phase.

Personally I prefer Inspiration as I've gotten so used to having Time Warp Tonic that it kind of feels weird if I don't have it, although of course that's just a personal bias.

nice guide
does this work on mid?
1
PH45 (39) | May 11, 2019 4:55am
Should be fine for mid, as her core items aren't different in mid and top. Some people prefer to run Press the Attack in mid lane for early burst damage against squishy mid laners but Conqueror can work too.

Also in mid lane some people rush Wit's End against AP champs early to combat magic damage.

What if you went full AP irelia and/or AD irelia? is it good? will it work? what do you think of it (full AP or AD irelia)?

I ask because i was using her in practice tool and most of her skills are AP based. If you go AP you also get 94% damage reduction on one of her 2nd skill (that's the highest i got).

PH45 (39) | April 24, 2019 11:29pm
Full AP/AD builds in general are quite risky since you are completely relying on blowing stuff up before you get blown up.

Full AP Irelia is pretty much a thing for gamemodes like URF or normal games. As AP Irelia your Q damage will be significantly weaker, thus you will be relying on your other abilities to do the damage.

Full AD Irelia isn't something you want to do either since most of the time you will be dashing into the fight into the middle of your opponents due to you first ulting and then Qing onto multiple targets, and you need to withstand their burst. That's where items like Sterak's Gage and Titanic Hydra etc come in.

As a conclusion, I'll say both of those builds can work in certain situations/rankings etc, but are they good? Probably not, and most certainly not as good as the trident true bruiser Irelia.
