Hello! Very well-made guide, my friend!

What do you think about Jinx paired with Rakan? Back in the day, it was my bread-and-butter climbing duo combo when I used to main this champion. The strength of this duo comes from the fact that Jinx can place her traps right as you W, making for a great CC chain.

Let me know what you think! Best of luck!

I think Jinx pairs really well with Rakan, the only ADC I'm personally not fond of is Tristana because they tend to leap in with your W and then you have no way back out lol

Great guide!

Should really consider building Radiant Virtue on Summoners Rift too. The item is just too good on Rakan. It makes him so tanky while giving him and his team so much haste and healing his team for his max hp for 9 whole seconds after he uses R.

A couple of notes tho:
Leveling up the abilities could change from one game to another. For example I would start E vs Hook champs like blitz, thresh and pyke. On poke matchups or matchups where I can't reach the enemies I only put 1 point in W and then 3 points in Q (Q also just got buffed so) And I take Biscuits for poke matchups.

For Presence of Mind I don't think It's really that good on rakan, I'd rather have Triumph and then if i'm having mana issues I just buy a tear and sit on it untill I need inventory space or I just upgrade it for Winter's Aproach.

Also note that Rakan W travel time no longer scales with movement speed but rather scales with type of boots, so I don't think Celerity or Nimbus Cloak is worth taking just because he already gets a ton of movespeed from his R so it would be overkill. Same for Relentless Hunter (But it would be good for roaming of course)

So IMO Best rune setup is:
Guardian, Font of Life, Bone Plating for all in matchups or Second Wind for poke matchups, Unflinching and if they dont have much CC then Revitalize is so worth

Secondary Best keystones:
Sorcery: Manaflow and Transendence

Precision: Triumph and Tenacity

Domination: Ghost Poro and Ultimate Hunter

Inspiration: Biscuits and Cosmic Insight

Also one question, How worth is Vigilant Wardstone? I never actually build it

I have Radiant Virtue on his optional items. Speed is still better, you don't want the enemy to be able to react to you and cc you, the quicker you move the harder it is for them to catch you, Rakan is all about speed.

Abilities do changed based on matchup, I usually take E first myself. The ability set is just the 'standard' option.

Presence of Mind allows you to stay in lane longer without having to back because you have no mana and can't use abilities and turn into just a meat shield. The longer you're in lane the more XP\Gold you get, so it's a win win.

Vigilant Wardstone is niche, if you buy your core items and have spare gold, it gives you access to more vision, and we all know vision wins games. You'll be able to place 2 Control Ward on the map, as well as an extra Stealth Ward, it's overall just a lot of extra vision. You can keep an eye on both main objectives by yourself, letting your team use their wards elsewhere.

Idk, Maybe It's my playstyle on Rakan is the reason I don't do well with Shurelya
Most of the times i get oneshot before my R even goes off cause of how squishy I am
I do think Shurelya is a really good item on Rakan but not when my team doesn't have enough frontline/tanks

Hmmm, I'd have to experiment more with Presence of Mind and see how it goes
Nearly everything you do on this champ is matchup specific so in some cases it would work just fine

I really like the vision section in this guide, really added to how to support on top of how to play rakan. Very cool

Keep up the good work. Do you think Rakam is good for climbing low elo?
1
Ionia King | July 11, 2022 12:48pm
Definitely, he's very good at turning fights around and engaging. If you pick your moments right, you'll be able to give your team nice leads, so you should be able to climb fairly easily in low elo.

I have a suggestion try taking Ghost Poro and Ultimate Hunter for your second tree with that you can fight more, and with ghost poro you have more AP for your healing etc and it's faster to stack than zombie ward and it's more effective at having vision control around areas of the map.

Since I didn't respond to the Ultimate Hunter part yet i'll do that here. That's a great rune and all but you shouldn't need it because early game where you're mainly going to be with your ADC, your Grand Entrance should be enough to force a win in most trades for your ADC to get fed. Late game where your ultimate matters more you'll have a much lower cooldown on it anyway from upgrading it, and with Ultimate Hunter there will be times you get it off cooldown early and there's no action going around, it's only good if you plan to have non stop action mid-late game which is rare to see anyway, since most teams like to split push, farm jungle camps for more gold etc. You're still better off with Legend: Tenacity & Presence of Mind or Nimbus Cloak & Celerity as your secondary. Also in case you weren't aware Rakan's Grand Entrance travel time is increased with your movement speed, so it's much harder for the enemy to dodge if you take Sorcery secondary runes :)

oh and protobelt is a really good first item buy as you have access to more combos a bit more tankiness and the AP you need to heal and shield your allies

Ionia King | March 20, 2020 5:22pm
Ardent Censer rush if you absolutely need the early AP gains, it's a very potent item on Rakan as you can shield twice, as well as giving your ADC bonus damage via the passives that item gives, also increasing your Fey Feathers by 10% (I think, don't hold me to that part :P) and your Battle Dance shield by 10%. As well as the 8% movespeed bonus which I told you earlier reduces the travel distance on your Grand Entrance as well. And don't forget the 10% CDR lol. Your tankiness increases significantly when you pick up Zeke's Convergence and Athene's Unholy Grail later on anyway :)

and one more thing Knights vow is a troll item you are losing out on so much by buidling it. The passive is cut in half because you're ranged and it doesn't offer anything worthwhile and the healing is barley noticeable. and if you want to be tanky you can just build Banshee's or Zyhona's for that but not as a second item it's towards the end of your build. Rakan is an enchanter and not a tank
1
Ionia King | March 20, 2020 4:49pm
Knight's Vow is still extremely viable for your ADC's survivability, it gives you armor and CDR which is something you need as Rakan, as well as bonus movespeed moving towards your ally giving you the ability to make easy plays since movement speed is vital. You're also not playing mid so there's no need for a Hextech Rocketbelt. You can do ghost poro or zombie ward but you're missing out on bonus movespeed from Nimbus Cloak\ Celerity or the extra mana for late game from Presence of Mind.

Hey, great guide :)
Do i get it right with tank rune build .. that while passive shield holds... Rakan get more MR and Armor from Shield Bash rune + conditioning % some more .. so basically Rakan engages being full tanky and then he lost bunch of defense when shield falls and became squishy if not geared right?
Great to trades, thanks to that runes Shield can hold a little bit longer
1
Ionia King | March 9, 2020 12:35pm
Yeah, engaging with Grand Entrance and having Aftershock + Shield Bash + Conditioning + Fey Feathers and a Gargoyle Stoneplate you'll have a significant amount of Armor and Magic Resist, long enough to survive quite a bit of a beating until Aftershock wears off, then you can Battle Dance your way out, unless your team killed everyone by then :)

That sounds badass :D
What occurs on my mind is Rakan's synergy with Shield bash.. that should be always-wanted secondary rune by his ADC since it will proc a lot giving his ADC MR + Armor + additional dmg to all trades they will do as duo.
What do you think about that :)
