Veteran recommendations do exactly the same. In a psychological way, a recommendation weighs heavier than a thumbs up, giving veterans (appointed by mobafire instead of League of Legends experience?) the ability to use some kind of 'veto' to increase a guide's popularity.

So you're saying the only people that should be recognized are the high ELO players that visit this site?

I'm not saying that. I just don't think it's fair that veterans have a larger influence on a guide's popularity than someone else who has the same amount of experience...or any other person in general.

but if we were recruited as a Veteran, we at least know something about the game.

I can't be sure about that since I don't know how you were selected and labelled as veteran. Since every veteran wrote a lot of comments, I thought this amount would define whether you are a veteran or not. It would be quite rediculous if this would be the case.

The recommendation tag does put some sort of mob mentality onto a guide.

So you're saying recommendation tags are bad? Inducing a mob mentality isn't good thing, right?

There are plenty of high-rated guide that aren't slapped with a Veteran tag.

That doesn't justify it.

Like a stated before:

Maybe there needs to be a re-evaluation feature.

JunSupport wrote:
Have a pop-up appear for a user that calls them to re-vote

Like:
"Hello, it's been 6 monthes since you voted on [insert guide name] by [insert author name].
We'd like to take a moment out of your day to have you check your current stance on the guide to ensure it is up to date."

It would signal users about HIGH-RATED, old guides that have many many votes, or are on the top 5 list of that particular champion.
It could also be modified to make users look at other close-ranked guides. Like: "While you're here, why don't you check out this guide?"

LoL isn't stagnant, it changes a little bit every 2 weeks with serious patches.
People's opinions or judgments will often change, so I think the guides should be re-evaluated regularly.

By regular, I mean something like 4~6 monthes. Guides with 200+ votes could change drastically in rating if this were implemented.

Is there some way we could have a ranked guides distinction? There's quite a few great guides that are made not to be the "best way" to play a champion, but a fun way to play a champion that's not as effective as the best way, but surprisingly so. These guides suffer from downvotes (and from Jet) because despite completing their objective quite well, they don't complete the hidden agenda every player has: is it viable? Having a better distinction between these two types would make it so well-written not-so-viable guides can exist at high scores right beside the viable guides.

It's not like we talk about the game on a website for League of Legends if we didn't know **** about what we were saying.

Yes, it is a bad thing in that it does make people see "Oh hey, Vet tag! Must be the best build on this site ever. I'm gonna +1 and never play the guide!" Although...

That doesn't justify it.

Why not? If the guides without a tag get caught all the way up to the higher rated, veteran tagged guides, then it should mean that the Veteran's opinions don't weigh heavily on the voting at all.

I really like this idea. It is hard for me to tell what a build is going for sometime, because I will look at it and see "man that would not work in a serious game." But I don't want everybody to play serious all the time, people should have fun too (and be successful while having fun hopefully!). People will still get their feelings hurt by publishing in the "ranked" section when people still don't think it's viable, but I think it would be a great tool for people wanting to make the either min-maxing or for funzies builds.

This is kind've off topic of the original post though, Trojan if you feel strongly about this I would suggest making a new topic suggesting this. ^.^

Maybe guide lists need to have a space to display the first 4~6 items on their sequence.

An item preview would definitely help out users in seeing which guides they want, and draw their attention to unique guides.

That makes sense. Although there are lots of people who talk a lot about the game and really don't know **** about it.

That's right, IF the guides get caught all the way up. There might be plenty of good guides being pressed away by tagged guides, because tagged guides get sheep votes and the others don't. There is even an option to rank guides on the amount of vet recommendations instead of the score...why?
