I think that Galio is a lot like Cho'Gath - he needs that farm and he's a great farmer, and now with the roaming meta, he can afford to solo lane bot and not steal farm from a carry, making him slightly more viable. Still, his ultimate is slightly outclassed by Amumu's - and Amumu can actually jungle and gank extremely well compared to Galio. His reliance on magic resist also makes him highly situational. If you need a bot lane tank farmer, I'd still go with Cho'Gath or Singed, and if you need strong AoE ultimates, I'd go with Amumu.

^Agreed.
But Galio is still fun to go around with, and is more supporty than Amumu because of his shield + haste.
For that reason I see Galio as a little less effective tank than Amumu, but with a dash of support :x
so if you are looking for a straight up tank, go Amumu/Rammus/Shen.
Support, Soraka/Janna/Sona.
But both, Galio! :D

I had never played him before this past week because he didn't seem like that fun of a champ. I decided to give him a try anyway and boy did I learn how wrong I was!
I've been trying to find a tank or a support that I can enjoy playing and I feel like Galio fits the bill perfectly.
Now if only Riot could come down on that price a little bit...
