and feathering just gives a nice rough efect and since its feathered it blends whatever is beneathe the render or above into the background. Also when using this particular style, i only render the image out just so certain brushes can overlap the main focus point to help it blend in, as it will look weird with all these effects beneathe the render.

Hm, now that I think about it, can't this method also work by doing a brush layer, then another with applied image and create a clipping mask? Your way seems easier, just wondering if my idea would work too o-o

But what does not understanding clipping mask have to do with chipmunks being spelled incorrectly? o_O :D

EDIT: Some questions.
Why exactly did you do a really quick render with feathering? Wouldn't it look weird then, since there will be parts of the brush and c4ds above parts that you don't want it to be above? O_O
for instance, The few threads of Cait's hair that you didn't select, what if C4D or the brush got there, wouldn't it show behind some of the hair and on top of some then?
And what is the purpose of the feathering of the render? If you are just putting brushes and c4d under the render, wouldn't it be like as mentioned before, part of it going on top of the render, part below?
