How much are those Quints? I just got level one quints and then just waited until I could afford role specific runes.
GP10 quints are good on roamers too, but we know where that meta went... :P
At the moment you pick greed mainly on junglers, supports, et cetera. Carries who can farm well don't have as much use for it, but may still elect to take it because it is, as people have said, a free ward every 10 minutes or so, or lets you complete that item without waiting 20 seconds, missing out on a teamfight or tons of CS.

Guys, Greed and GP10 Quints are good. They give wards which give you more money. Which gets you equip to get more money from kills so you can buy wards. This cycle repeats itself almost endlessly. GREED IS GOOD!
