How essential is CDR on Kog'Maw?

New Kog'Maw has a 7 second downtime on his W. Let's assume for a minute that you're running 9/0/21, as you should be. That's already 9% CDR. Add CDR glyphs and you're at a cool 15%.

So you've got 4.45 seconds of downtime at this point. Here's the question - how essential is it to get to 40% CDR? If you do, you have your W up almost all the time, with only 0.2 seconds of downtime. However, this would force you to run a strange build. At the moment the best candidate is looking to be Nashor's Tooth, with its 25% CDR, putting you exactly where you need to be. But it gives attack speed and then fairly marginal stats. Is it worth it? Would it be better to stick with 15% CDR and rush more important items, or maybe rely on blue buff more?

Discuss.

It's really not essential to reach 40%CDR. Good, but far from essential.
I don't think CDR glyphs are worth using on Kog.

CDR glyphs is almost a full second of smaller downtime on your W, but yeah, I agree that 40% isn't essential.

What glyphs would you run then? I assume flat MR.

Yea, probably flat MR. But if I am to duo bot I'd grab per level since most damage is physical in that lane.

What about keeping your CDR runes, building Nashor's Tooth and then throwing in a Wit's End?
(And buy merc treads as your boots)
In this way you've got a ton of attack speed and your W is on an effective 0.2 second cooldown. So you always stay far away, and also hit really fast.

-->Not a kog'maw player, only looking at what was being discussed and offering some theory.

Probably too much money for minimal benefit.

definitely think nashor's is worth it on kog now, but you're still better off rushing malady and madred's in my opinion, since they sinergize so well with kog'maw's abilities. I would drop in CDR items here or there like an ancient codex. When you do eventually build nashor's you'll be a shredding machine. Still recommend greaves over boots of lucidity though.

I think the best thing to do is, if possible, get Ionian Boots of Lucidity. With CDR runes (which I honestly think should be taken), masteries and IBoL, you'll have 30%. That's good enough without really needing max CDR, but without really hindering your build. You might say, "but sorceror's shoes/berserker's greaves are essential!" but I really don't think they are, compared to how much other CDR items would hinder kog.

"other CDR items would hinder kog"

how does nashor's hinder kog at all? It's AP and attack speed, which is all he needs.

Trojan: The problem with that is that you really want either Zerker's for a MASSIVE boost to early game DPS or Merc Treads to compensate for Kog's complete lack of CC. :/

theBMB: Nashor's is really cost-inefficient and doesn't offer any extra impact on top of the increased attack speed, unlike Bloodrazor, Wit's End, or Malady.
