i dont c how that would b a meta change
the meta includes a jungler!!! so saying 2-1-2 was the current meta is false. and if you have 2 solos, duo botlane just makes the most sense for dragoncontrol.

Like sam said, dragon control is the reason for the duo bot lane. Since you should have it warded at all times, you should know when the other team goes for dragon, and be able to send 2-4 people to stop it (bot lane, mid lane, and possibly your jungler). Having less top lane control isn't as important since baron can't be taken nearly as soon or as quickly.

Thanks to Jovy for the sig!
what about 2 mid 1 top 1 jungle 1 bot? then you can get the 2 mid, the 1 bot and your jungler to dragon. That's 4 people, which is as many as you can get to dragon now (2 bot, 1 mid 1 jungle)
The problem with that is, you lose out on a bit of dragon control because mid is farther away from dragon. You also lose a bit of power later game because your mid is supposed to be your nuke. If they don't level fast enough, they can't nuke. And if bot or top loses the 2v1 lane you're just completely screwed.

But what if we just switch the mid laner with the bot laners?
That could work, even though the lack of bushes makes it harder for supporters.
Isn't that the 1-2-1 idea some one said? (Granted there is a jungler) Otherwise it's 2-2-1.
Say you do use a 1-2-1 setup with a jungler, and the other team uses the current meta. If your mid kills their mid, then you have an empty lane in the middle of the map which can easily go either top or bottom to gank, or even one to each lane, as well as your jungler to gank. Or your jungler can gank mid first, and if they aren't turret hugging or if they overextend even a bit that's almost a gaurunteed kill. And when mid goes to gank, you have 1-3 people going to either bot or top for the gank and these lanes are each higher levels than their enemy laners, making it much easier to overpower.
Or the two in mid can keep a lot of pressure on mid and force them to go back a lot or even kill, putting pressure on the tower and perhaps causing top or bot to come mid, but that leaves those lanes underleveled or empty and allowing you to push them.
I had more theories on this, but class is almost over and I'm about to leave lol So I might post more ideas on this later, and may try this cause it sounds interesting. There was a lot more I was gonna say as far as strategy but don't have time atm..
My theory is a bit flawed however because if they see two in mid they may have one from another lane come. I saw this happen one game yesterday where this kinda happened because ezreal was stubborn and wouldn't leave mid and then rage quit.. lol

the duo is on botlane because ganks are less effective on a duolane
lets say u run your ap bot and your adsupport mid. Your ap will lose immense amounts of farm because hes to vulnerable so far away from the tower. thats why the sidelanes are always duolanes! you are less exposed to ganks with a partner/babysitter
