the amount of elo you gain or lose is determined by the elo of the players you're playing with. If you're playing with a lot of lower ELO players and you lose, you'll lose a lot of ELO, but if you win you won't gain much.
The opposite is true if you're playing with a lot of higher ELO players.
I doubt there's any sort of "combo" multiplier to ELO gains, in all likelihood, you were moving up so you started getting paired with other higher ELO players and thus were gaining more ELO per win.

the first 10 games you play in ranked give like 50 elo...durp
and since they reset the season, that happens again...
it'll gradually reduce down to 10-15 after 50 or so games

The thing works like this: more points you have, more points you'll earn or lose. In 1100-1200 ELO, you generally get 15-20 points when you win and as you said, you get 40-50 in 1500 ELO.

Finally someone who knows what he is talking about. They reset the "K" factor, or the factor that increases the elo gains/losses. It is highest when you first start, and will gradually decrease after the first ten games. This is to rapidly place people in their elo bracket, though some will get carried too high and some will get trolled too low. After playing many games, you will be down to ~~10-15 elo a match.
