Seems like this game definitely caters toward ranged attacking champions. Shoot n Run! Is there any reason to go with a melee champion? I can't think of one (granted I'm pretty new to the game). I'd still like to try more champions though. Which melee champs are the best? I know it's all personal preference and blah blah blah but just tell me your favorite close range champion. Preferably one on the current champ rotation :p

There are some champions that outscale damage with resistances for mid game.

Also, eventually you'll need to provide your auto attackers a way to auto attack from safety.

For now while you're new, probably not much reason.

Melee have more survivability, and usually have a gap closer. Ranged champion lose their advantage when you close the gap between you two. With skills like Alpha Strike, Audacious Charge, and Leap Strike you can take them out fairly easily. Trust me you don't want to be a Ashe vs a Xin Zhao, nor do you want to be a Caitlyn vs a Jax. Xin is by far my favorite melee champion. Try master yi, or wukong this week. Yi does more damage but doesn't have a lot of survivability. Wu Kong is a great champion to start as.

If you do try Master Yi, just do the meta golems. Mercury boots, Wriggle's, Trinity Force, Warmogg's, Atma's, Force of Nature, Finally selling wriggle's and building I.E.

I still hate melee champs :P - I hate playing the same char over and over again too, though. So I'll keep trying to play all champs. Actually Alistar i sorta liked but still can't compare to a ranged attacker. Especially around turrets because they target champions moreso than minions.

PS, When reading character build guides, they have the recommended Purchase order for the shops. I don't understand what it means when some items are darkened and some are highlighted. What does that mean?

The ones that are highlighted are intended to mean the items you will have at the end of the build, while the rest are either used to build future items or are later sold for more space.

The system is a bit... annoying to me, since I can't choose which ones are darkened. Indirectly I can, but I'd like to have a full build and order on the cheat sheet without it looking like I sell my Merc Treads. >_>

Your exactly like my opposite, lol. I hate ranged champions (except mages), but absolutely love melee champions. Melee champions take a bit more time to master, but in time you will get use to them. A team of all ranged versus, a team of all melee would both be bad teams, but melee is almost guaranteed to win. Ranged might have a early game advantage but late game melee destroy ranged team, because they will have gap closers, and can soak up damage well.

You should learn more than ranged attacking champion because you need to be versatile enough if you played enough and are going to play ranked. Anyway, melee champions with gap closer can screw you up, like Tryndamere, I just hate him when I am using ranged AD carry. Also, ranged attacking champion is not all mighty, those anti-carry can screw you up like Nocturne for example, once he close in you are really screwed.

Of course, if you like ranged more then play more ranged, nothing wrong with that. Also, for your around turret thing, the turret will target you only if you are attacking enemy's champions so be smart around the tower if you are a melee. The good thing is that you have the HP to soak up more damage than a ranged.

It really comes down to your style and what suits you.

All kinds of champions are very good.
