Even as a good player with a team that attempts to feed you stacks, the problem with snowball items is they don't give you anything back at all until you start getting kills with them, and they don't become cost effective until you have somewhere around 8 stacks with them. That's 4 kills. Against a team that knows what they're doing to some degree, and/or a team that has your team a little bit on the back foot, you may never get those stacks up, or the degree you'll have to extend yourself in order to get the stacks might cost you more farm, towers, and allies than it's worth. Many many many games are decided in the laning phase. If you're busy trying to gank and capitalize on kills and assists, but don't get very many or any at all, and suddenly you're 50 farm behind... that's over 1000 gold, which is a very big deal in the early and mid stages of the game.

To the people saying CC counters Kat.

This is no different than if Kat rushes a Gunblade.

If CC counters kat, it doesn't matter what you build bro's.

You might consider taking that discussion somewhere else, seeing as it's completely irrelevant to the topic being discussed.

I think the point they're making is that Gunblade Kat loses nothing if she gets CC'd and dies, whereas Stacky Kat loses a ton of stats.

That's a null point.

Any champ using stacking items can be CC'd and die.

I will say however that I consider Kat to be one of two things;

A throw away ultimate, or an ult into a clean up crew finisher.

You ult in, get as much of it off before you die, or, you ult in, kill a few suckas, shunpo around, dagger, and kill everything. Either way is cool by me.

That's our point. We're not saying Kat sucks with snowball items. We're saying snowball items suck. Kat is just one champion that can use them better than most others.

Special thanks to Keondre for the sig!

I've been playing a lot of Snowball Katarina (Mejai -> Occult -> Leviathan) in normals and it's been working out pretty well if you play her carefully. Does anyone else do this? I feel like Gunblade Kat is kinda silly since the Gunblade nerf, and the hybrid route isn't really that good becuase of how expensive AD can be.

She is awesome in the mid game as a finisher and if you plan your attacks so they definitely kill someone, you can either hop out of the fight or hop onto someone else if there's another kill around. That way, you can build up stacks pretty easily and eventually turn your ult into something seriously painful.

Does anyone else play her this way? I did a write up on her if you're interested in learning more :D

After reading this whole thread, I would just like to comment to the OP that the questions asked were 'Does anyone else do this?' and 'Does anyone else play her this way?'.
What everyone is saying is that 'NO! We do not play her this way!' and then goes on to tell you why. Remember your actual questions before you go berating people for their replies, ok?
Strength may win the fight, but style wins the crowd.

+rep if you like what I say, explain why if you don't.

Additional- Tried it solo queue, went 32/0/14. Tried it there again, 3/8/10. It's all about how the team panders to your needs.

Katarina ia part of a variety of champions that are more heavily impacted by a well-timed stun because she relies on a channel to deal her peak damage.

The other big example being Nunu & Willump
To a lesser extent, Fiddlesticks (because most people run like hell) and Karthus (because he's often invulnerable or far away while casting)

You can't call it a null point because CC has different levels of effectiveness on different champions.
Stunning Akali after she uses her ult has an entirely different amount of effectiveness to stunning Katarina after she uses her ult.
One can stealth, and continue to dash and kill you. The other would have the main portion of her output eliminated.

These differences vary with each different champion kit, and their roles that effect whether or not they can handle CC or other mechanics being thrown at them.
