Overall it's a pretty decent guide that will give the readers a good idea of how to actually build Jax. It could use a couple of gameplay tips though.
"let's do this"
- Jax, The Grandmaster at Arms ;)
I like the guide overall.
Your pregame setup seems quite solid to me. All runes/masteries are completely fine for the most part. However, what I would like to point out:
As a one-point investment, Summoner's Wrath is one of the best masteries, in my opinion.
Your items are just fine, although I believe there are much more items to be listed (almost everything works well on Jax =P).
But as far as I am aware, after you get Trinity Force and Hextech Gunblade, you won the game...
Personally, I would recommend starting Boots+3pots or Cloth Armor+5pots (as you already suggest) for solo top. I don't think that Doran's item start is currently viable.
I saw some really good playstyle tips, especially the one about pre-activating Counter Strike and then jump-stunning the enemy (a technique that many Jax players lack skill in :).
HOWEVER, I recommend that you make a distinct section for it. Having it go right after skill sequence and then jumping right into Summoner Spells choices is kind of random and hard for an eye to catch.
Overall, what I would recommend you to do:
Just use

What do you get from me:
An UPVOTE for your guide ;) I like it and I believe it's exactly how Jax is played.
+rep, cuz I can =P
And why is it called "Twisted Treeline Jax"? Is there something different about Twisted Treeline that makes it more viable than Summoners Rift for this build? If not, you could add something about viability in Summoner's Rift.
However, I think this guide is good all-around, but the points mentioned are what stops me from upvoting.
