Nice Guide! I like how you explained why he doesn't need a bunch of the stuff that most people seem to think is necessary on him. Consider adding some alternatives to your items section?

nice guide, great item choice, although I'd take Frozen Heart before AA.

IMO, you'd make the guide more enjoyable to read. more structure is needed. when that is changed, I'll +1

Regards,

Drasq

if youre going to get defensive glyphs, i would highly suggest Glyph of Warding, since Ryze is a mid champ you need that MR early more than you need it late.

promote is awful. if youre any good at ryze, youd know he doesnt need any help pushing his lane after level 6, and you cant even use promote till after that.

flat mana seals give you enough mana for almost an extra e...so not worth it.

no reason not to get strength of spirit, great synchronization with ryze's mana stacking, and definitely worth losing 4% cdr that is going to be over the top anyways. even early game you start with an extra 6 hp5 which might not seem like much but its enough to help you sustain in lane.

spell vamp quints are better on ryze, and if you think movespeed is better than you should fill up the movespeed mastery...

new masteries are a little better for ryze, a little, but they helped out all other champs more, so in actuality it was more like a stealth nerf

RoA might not be a good item to get for ryze in most games, but in some its actually a good idea to rush it. you should at least list it

R-E-W-Q is a terrible combo. R-Q-E-W-Q goes out just as fast. R-Q-W-E-Q does almost as much damage as R-Q-E-W-Q and is more likely to land fully. and if youre not worried about them running away then Q-E-Q-W-Q-R-Q-E-Q-W-Q is the way to go. you need to learn to take advantage of your passive better

I'll respond on the issue of Strength of Spirit. Quick-and-dirty, mid-game you have around 2.5k mana, which translates to 25 HP5. That's not enough to keep you up in a fight. It's just a bit of extra sustain when pushing lanes and such. Late-game it's around 45 HP5 with full build, which still isn't really enough to make a diffence. Health regen is good early but useless late, and late is the only time when SoS is going to really be maximized. I really want to like and use SoS, and I've argued its use recently, but actually it's just not really the best mastery simply because it's not all that impactful.

The only flaw I see is the way you build up your CDR, you go over the cap with your masteries, wasting some points that could be spent somewhere else. The frozen heart gives you 25% CDR and overload gives 2% per level, adding up to 10%, this means that you only need to fill in 5% with masteries to reach the cap. You take the sorcery mastery in offence to reach the magic pen, that gives you another 4% meaning that you are at 39%, but then you put another 3 points in intelligence, putting you 4% over the cap, personally, I don't really think that the 1% CDR matters so I would put all 3 of those points from intelligence into strength of spirit, this would turn 1% of your max mana into health regen. Ryze is pretty much the only champion that you stack mana on so I think this mastery is quite over powered on him. Basicly you're trading 1% CDR for 38 heath regen per 5.

I like your guide. however, I find that you shouldn't skip RoA. fully stacked it gives you 725 mana which can only be topped by a fully stacked AA staff/manamune/ToG. It's simply too much damage for me to give up. you could ask your support to buy the will of the ancients for you. other than that, I buy the frozen heart before the AA staff.

I do understand the apprehensiveness of people giving up the RoA, I, Warrrax and others remove it to speed up item builds on more core items. removing adds earlier survivability and dps and kills from other gear. This allows you to get more gold earlier, which you can use how you want. I used to use RoA, now I don't. I didn;t give it up either, but now that I have I like it better. This is a guide, but not the definite epitomy of the ryze build. Infact I stopped using my own build and use a 0/21/9 instead to a much greater effect. Following the links to the LoL forums for the discussion explains alot of the theory that went into this guide. Also the continuing theory into the 0/21/9 build.

I also want to thank everyone for their positive input, I'm glad this guide is of use to you all. It would not of been possible without the contributions of the LoL community and forums.

Promote is probably the worst summoner spell in the game. Prove me wrong, I dare ya.

They buffed everything but utility in the mastery changes. Utility used to be BETTER than it is now. Seeing as you don't seem to think that way I get the feeling that you don't really know the masteries that well. (you're obviously not using wrong masteries tho, because 9/0/21 is by far best on Ryze)

Item section only contains one build and doesn't mention Abyssal Mask nor says that Rod of Ages is a viable alternative, despite the fact that the author decides to stay away from it.

Runes are ok. Mana/lvl glyphs and Mana or MrP quints would seem like a better choice than HP quints.
MS quints is a good recommendation.

You should also work a little on your formatting, because it's not an aesthetically pleasing guide.

Please take the critique to heart, because I'm serious.
