Even while increasing the difference in abilities is a good thing, they started on creating way more "perfect" champs who complete their kit by themself and use only one state as main attribut while the others are more or less secondary.
For example:
Fizz only needs AP and the standard def perks.
Stand-alone he's a melee and therefore has a gap closer/escape tool/slow/sth for single/multi-targeting. Every skill works hand in hand with the others, so Fizz can effectively chase/single out his prey.
Back in the days the only 2 champs who had a rudimental secured kit were Yi and Tristana.
Early they only need 1 offensive state (Yi AS/Tris AD) and some def to do their job.

The issue with the newer champs is primarily mechanics based.
Riot is taking older stuff and simply improving it...Like drastically.
Corki's Phosphorus Bomb became Grave's Smoke Screen....
Singed Fling is now Voliber's Charge/Fling (imo)
Troll Pool became Troll Pole etc....
Just things I see as being very similar and actually better than the older champs.
Disagree if you wish, but it's very upsetting that it's happening.
They are giving themselves extra work to do...It feels like eventually S1 Champs will be overshadowed by S2....
I had said it previously that it was kind of irritating that they nerfed the **** out of heroes with neat abilities, escape mechanisms, and sustain and have now given similar or even better abilities to the newer heroes making the older ones obsolete. I know this is how they make money but still.... buff the older heroes better. Or undo a lot of the stupid nerfs. Because I know you are not going to nerf the newer champs.
Did I manage to assist you in any way? Hook me up by hitting that nifty +Rep button.

inb4 3 months from now Riot releases Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow with a global stun that does tons of damage (ult), a mini cv that does damage to anyone it passes through, a permanent stun counter as Q (think Kennen passive), an Aoe damage dealer, and a passive that increases gold gained from minions and gives passively increasing CrC every second. And he has a range of 600.
You know, I can totally see that happening too >.>

^ Exactly what I was trying to say with my post.
If Riot released Ashe today, she'd have steroids on her skills and ridiculous base stats.

She'd cost 6300, too.

However, the old champs with the old straight forward kits could be brought into line by just having bigger impact on those linear skills Jeffeh.
It just seems a 5 number boost on some old champions skills or a base stats buff would be enough :)
Damage and stats aren't everything. The utility and uniqueness of a kit counts too. Corki had his blind removed.....Then Graves came out (much later but still) with an ability that literally affected a summoner's vision on the field of battle.....There's a big disparity between uniqe kits/abilities of old and new champs.
Volibear's passive was quoted by someone on Moba as being a mini Mundo ultimate. As I stated troll pool and troll pole are similar but IMO Pole is a lot better than Vlad's old standby trick. Riot's doing a good job of improving upon their old formulas and abilities, but could it be too good if older champions are no longer even noticed once a slew of 40+ or more champs arrive by the end of the year? Buffing stats/damage is a step in a good direction of bringing older champs up to snuff.

Morde is probably in an OK spot. Bringing him up a little bit wouldn't hurt though. Just my 2c
