To be fair I thought FF2 was hard, 10 years passed, and I played it and it was so easy I needed coffee to stay awake :P

Go back in time. The best years of video game were the SNES, NES, Genesis, N64 and Dreamcast. Those were good time. Graphics destroied the video game industries. But that's just IMO
First game I ever bought : Super Smash Bros on the N64. It just came out, and me and my brother splitted the price between us. I remember I used all the money I had from my birthday. It was a good investment.

I can't pinpoint it to a year, I'd rather note some highlights in gaming that have a very special place in my heart: ( list is not sorted in any way )
- Ghostbusters C64

- Sonic The Hedgehog 2
- Thunderhawk (Mega CD)
- Contra (SNES) - killed a joypad
- Ninja Gaiden I XBOX - killed 2 joypads but I beat that *****!
- Shinobi (Gamegear)
- Chrono Trigger

- Secret Of Mana
- Final Fantasy 7
- X- Wing
- Zak McKracken

- Halflife
- FEAR I
- Mass Effect I / II

That's what emulators are for. I wasn't old enough when the SNES was out either, but I've still played FF4-6 and Chrono Trigger. I have some more I've been meaning to get around to eventually.
FANTASY STAR lol WOW.
I just time warped into the past.

I remember my first PS1 game was Croc. I loved that game :D
And also the first FIFA game, I played that al lot with my brothers and dad..
My first game was Final Fantasy VII, although I got Crash Bandicoot 2 for free with the console. I remember I found it with my dad at a car boot sale and he pointed to the picture of Midgar on the back of the box thinking it was a spaceship, since at the time I was especially interested in space and sci-fi stuff (oh wait, I still am). I was ****ing terrible at it, it took me forever to beat the first boss, and when I did I thought I had finished the entire game. So many epic memories and my music folder has a ton of Final Fantasy soundtracks in it.
Also, Dragon Age 2 fans, you sicken me to the very soul. :P
