I'd have to probably say 1996, when both N64 and Pokemon came out. Paved the way for gaming and the huge popularity of JRPG's only increased 10000x past this point :3

It's hard to put a year to it. I really like the 16 bit era though.
Arcades were not dead yet so you can still leave your house and get in on some gaming action. The Super Nintendo probably the longest living console with most games to date.

It was so good my friends that it imploded in on itself. Arcades ports became more popular than arcade games. The console wars perpetuated advancement for the sake of advancing rather than quality. However I think the playstation really gave the whole thing a run for it's money.

The modern age has the foundation for great potential with the internet but it's hard to judge on a day to day basis.

At least the movies are getting better.

1990-1994

Perhaps it's because I haven't been a real gamer for more than 2-3 years. I've always played games, but never that much ^^

I really loved the old days with games as Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Croc for Playstation and Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda for Nintendo. That's why I'm really thinking about picking up Rayman Origins for the nostalgia of it.

Sure, go ahead. Dunno if it can pick up the original Rayman feeling playing it on the first PS, though.
The atmospehere/game variety was pretty neat, even the difficulty level was justified.

But what can I say, even cheaper things like "Lucky Luke" on PS gave me a greater experience than todays 20-40$ games ever could.

You just didn't have the same expectations back then.. But damn, I have some good memories playing Spyro with the neighbour's kid and playing Track & Field 2 and old football games with my dad.

I also played insanely much of Mario Kart, Super Mario 64 and James Bond: Goldeneye with my best friend from childhood.

Yeah. that should be right.

Yesterday's games were sth totally new while today's are just "already there".

Even so, while graphics were still very limited the focus lay greater on the gameplay/story/player experience side.
Today its 50% graphic and 50% the other stuff.
Even on a system with less range on that aspect they try to land some optical hits here and there.

But have to admit that regarding graphics + overall Crysis was the one who totally remembered me of the good old "astonished" times.

Those good days with Gen1 Pokemon Sprites and Yugioh hadn't even been invented...

So nostalgic.
