Riot is buffing Rake mana costs at lower levels, btw, leaving it the same at max level ;)
See what they are trying to imply? :D
+ Rake = you push the lane automatically, exposing yourself to ganks much more.

Triforce is bad for Talon. It doesn't give him any AD, which he needs as an AD caster. Movespeed isn't as great and AS+crit are just a waste.
Only good thing about Triforce is the Sheen proc... But is it really worth the 4070 gold? Meh...
I used to build Trinity, but not anymore. Just too expensive for not that much of a benefit.

I'm not going to argue the maths for it, it's probably correct, or near enough. Rake does do more damage than Noxian Diplomacy. But only if it hits both ways, which it won't always, though will most times, I must admit, unless the enemy is smart enough to run to the side instead of backwards when you Rake, in which case it would only hit once most times, but people smart enough to do that are rare, so yeah, twice most times... But because of Noxian Diplomacy's low CD it does more damage, being able to cast 2.5 of them in the time Rake is on CD. And the argument "Rake is safer for harassing" isn't a very good one. If you're using Rake on its own without the rest of your burst, then you're using up too much mana while dealing too little damage. So unless you want to waste one of your rune slots on flat mana regen seals, you can't use Rake to harass safely due to mana problems.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying "I'm right, you're wrong". Maxing both Noxian Diplomacy and Rake are viable, both do lots of damage, both have their pros and cons. I simply think that Noxian Diplomacy would be smarter, but I know I could very well be wrong, and I respect that you have your own opinion on the matter as well, and I am happy to be able to discuss it.

Hey man! Good Job with your guide.

I've just read it, here and there, and I've seen you mentioned quite a bit that .. Maxing your Q first is the best damage output, and .. well, I just came to tell you why that's .. Not really true :D

If we take it with .. Maths:

Level .. Let's say 10. Items: Merc Treads, The Brutalizer, Bloodthirster.
That means around .. 200 AD ? .. Ok.

Noxian Diplomacy: 150 Damage (Level 5) + 0,3 AD. Add to this the bleeding of 15 + 0,2.
Rake: 130 Damage (Level 5) + 0,6 AD. x2, because you'll try to hit the enemy twice with it, once in the go, once in the comeback.

Noxian Diplomacy: 150 Damage + 0,3 * 200 = 210. 15 + 0,2 * 200 = 55. 210 + 55 = 265.
Rake: 130 Damage + 0,6 * 200 = 250. If you hit the target twice, 500 Damage.

With only ONE go, you do only 15 damage less than with Noxian Diplomacy. If you hit the item entirely, which is most of the cases, you'd do double damage, than with Noxian Diplomacy.

Okay, now. Teamfight ? .. You can now say that .. Of course, in teamfight changes. But it doesn't, really.

If you can't kill an opponent in one complete burts, maybe two. Then it's not worth it. Therefor, you'll be able to use like .. Twice rake, once to initiate, once to finish. And .. Noxian Diplomacy about .. Three times ? ..
ND x = 265 * 3 = 795.
Rake x 2 = 1000.

Maybe not so exact maths, but for sure, Rake wins in all aspects.
500 Total damage (With 200 AD) pero enemy hit, great AOE. Very good harrassing method.
With Noxian Diplomacy you expose yourself WAY too much, specially mid. Cutthroat + Rake + Noxian Diplomacy usually means a Brand stunning you, and probably taking half of your life away, Kassading silencing and slowing you, for some autoattacks. Maybe Annie forcing her own combo out.
While, with Rake, you only keep harrassing them, barely getting in their range, before walking away.
That was point one, now two.
Trinity Force is one of the BEST items for Talon. Take a look at the section in my own guide, maybe that'll convince you.

I think that was it, ;D

Good luck!

Nice guide, and it works really well. I just wreck face pretty much every time I play him, even if I had a bad start (had a game were I was solo top against Jax. 25-30 minutes into the game, I was 3-8 with 50-60 cs. He was like 10-1 with ~200 cs, and was just destroying our team. I was 14-8 when we won).

Question though, I had a game where the enemy team pretty much only had AD champs, so instead of Banshee's Veil, I got Randuin's Omen. It also gives HP, as well as an active that is good both in teamfights, but like the passive, it also works 1v1. Was that okay, or are the other items that are better?

Sorry for taking so long to respond, I haven't been keeping up with mobafire much, been busy. Yes, Randuin's Omen is a great item for Talon when the enemy team has lots of AD. Two other items to consider are Thornmail and Frozen Heart.

Looking forward to it, BlackIceT. :)

I love to play Talon and am looking to improve my game with him. I will be trying this guide out next time I play him so expect my review to come within this coming week!!! Although I already up-voted you because the guide looks nice in itself! :)

I rolled this build for 4 times , won all the 4 matches . I have to say , i was able to two hit any tank with noxian and auto but it lacks protection , a stun would be enough to take you down midgame . In late game i have to say , it's damn hard to go down when you take more hp out them them then do do dmg on you =)) . Fun to play build , nicely detailed guide . Thanks for it .

Glad it worked for you.

As for the stun thing, that's not actually a problem with the build, it's a problem with Talon. The only way to counter stuns would be to get more resistances or HP, but if you do that then you're not building as an assassin, which is exactly what Talon is. Merc Treads should hopefully be enough though.

It's not much yet, but you can see,or at least I already see improvment in my first 3 games with him :D the first game, I wasn't really following your guide yet, which kind of gave me more deads than kills, the next two games i followed your ability sequence and also the order of buying items and i found that it helped me harass better;

As I just woke up now I can't really remember which spells you adviced to get, but i found that I had more survivability when i took ghost and the heal thingy (i don't have flash yet), which allows me to stay longer in lane since I can't get potions if i buy doran's blade; I did get The bloodthirster rather fast in my last game so i decided to get Banshee's then, like you said, before another bloodthirster and I might stick to that even when i don't get bloodthirster quick, because I do feel that you need it a tad bit more before you get another AD item;

Your other advice also helped, farming the first few levels, tower huggin' if necessary and then start roaming and ganking people, i do have another question tho' about his ultimate:

Can it get interrupted by stuns, or silences or .. because I've noticed that two times, i start the ult; and the little ninja stars IMMEDIATLY come back to me, i was kinda curious about that; anyways, thanks again for your guide !

Hi,

I got myself Talon today and right now I'm kinda feeling like you described in the beginning of your post :D ready to put him in a closet and lock the doors. I do however find your guide very logical and i'm willing to persist and see where it gets me. Obviously I haven't got the whole mechanism of Talon down yet..since i've only played one match with him..so i suppose it's normal i kinda got my *** kicked a little bit..

I was wondering tho', if you could also go for defensive items first and then afterwards the AD or is the AD too important too burst the enemy down? Imo I died rather fast everytime, so i kinda went panicshopping and bought defensive items etc..but by then the game was over..I could be chasing too early too tho' :s I'm still learning the whole game and yeh the champions..and i'm only level 11 so it's not like my team is very experienced..

Anyways, nice guide, i gave it + vote, or at least i think i did, i've read alot of guides here before but you're really the first one i registered for and make the effort to comment and vote :p

EDIT: I'm also kind of confused as to what is the best combo of abilities to maximize dmg output?

Talon can be hard to get the hang of at first, it took me ages, but as you play him more you'll start doing well in nearly all matches. And thanks for the +1.

As for the best combo, the BIGGEST damage burst is W + E + auto attack + Q ( auto attack ), but because there's the slight risk you might miss Rake if you start off your combo with it, I usually use E + auto attack + Q ( auto attack ) + Rake as they turn around to run. The only difference is that the second burst doesn't get the extra damage from your passive, but it makes up for it by having a nearly guaranteed hit both ways on Rake.
