Maokai's Late game scaling is bad though..
I would like to leave a remark about the best solo-top there is: Irelia, good sustain, good harras, and anti-carry potential.

His late game scaling is into a tank.
Also, he can build some good damage and tank decently as well because of his ult providing 20% damage reduction.
Maokai is a support tank, with subpar scalings on all his abilities.. He's a initiator, and the problem with putting him top is his lack of late-game damage.
I can't find any reasonable reason not to put him in the jungle>solo-top.

Far from it. She's easily beat or counterpicked top unless played far better than the opponent.
I'd agree, he doesn't need that much farm (not as much as other champions anyway) so there's no reason in putting Mao in top over the jungle. Especially when he's a really really good jungler, and always has been.

@Duff
Mao has always been good
Rammus is worse if anything
Malphite only got slightly better
What the flying **** lol.
Nope, nope, nope.
That was easy ^_^

Yes.
No.
Irelia is barely passable in the top lane. She's a very average champion in my experience right now.

Yes. CDR + Shure and Aegis and Randuin's and stuff make him really good.

Yeap. Counter picked or just buy Warden's mail and she loses regardless...

I don't think he is going to be running into a lot of counterpick situations @ level 18 though guys.
At OP: There are a ton of people who can handle solo top. Since you are only level 18, I would suggest trying out all of the different characters who have been mentioned here, along with any others you might run into. Just because a character makes a great solo top doesn't necessarily make them fun for you in particular to play.
I've had fun playing some very non-traditional solo tops (Heya Teemo), and had absolutely no fun with some reallllly good solo tops (Olaf). Unless it is a ranked game, LET YOUR HEART DECIDE :)
