When you're playing AD while you should still try to attack the high damage squishy champions, it's not always possible for you to get within range of them safely. In this case, just attack the most threatening target you can reach.

Get in a position so you can 
Rocket Jump > instagib Caitlyn. Hide in the brush or something. Then when she dies, jump back out.
Usually what you do as trist.

You have more range than cait.

Caitlyn was behind theirs initiators and i couldnt reach her with my longer range.I never tried
Rocket Jump, i guess im too noob. Always forget that CD restes on kill or assist

Because cait was far behind the tanks, therefore requiring the need to

You fell victim to the blame game.
If you felt you would have died instantly, stick with your gut and stay out of range. You would have ended up dying and then be blamed for going in trying to kill Caitlyn. Just focus whomever is in range, primarily high damaging targets.

In my last game there was a complicated situation, my team was Shen, Kennen, Lee Sin and Nidalee. Shen wasnt tanking at all, in every teamfight their Shyvana and Nunu initiate, and i couldnt get to Caitlyn who was shreding my team. So because of lack of tank and cc from my team i stayed back in every fight and just attacking who gets in ranged and playing safe. At the end of the game Lee Sin and Nidalee was blaming me for not focusing Caitlyn instead of Shyvana a Nunu.
My question is if should risk myself and try to get Caitlyn, or stay behind my team and just deliver DPS to anyone who gets in range, because i felt that i would die in 2 sec if had tried to reach caitlyn who was behind their team all the time
