I reckon 
Athene's Unholy Grail comes out on top in most cases, obviously has more mana regeneration for one of the most mana hungriest champion in the game. The magic resist comes in use for trades or difficult lanes where you may be getting zoned or forced to farm with your spells (aka cost mana). I find the extra 5% CDR offered by Morello's Evil Tome is wasted as it will tend to just go over the CDR cap. You reach the CDR cap with blue buff, Athene's Unholy Grail and Sorcery.
In situations where I would think Morello's Evil Tome would come in use is when its unique active would come into great effect so against teams with a: Swain, Dr. Mundo, Fiddlesticks, Soraka, Warwick etc. Very viable under these circumstances against champions who have some sort of healing mechanic.

personally, i dont like either on lux. but i were to choose one, athene's unholy grail would be the item.

Athenes for sure. The early mana regen from Chalice of Harmony helps a lot with early laning, and the late game magic resist gives you a bit of magic resist to boot :D

Never get Morello's unless you really need the anti-heals...
Even so I think more damage would be better, but idk, Athene's is fine.
Bit of a necro, but I'll add that I think Morello's is now the most overrated item on AP mids. I would pretty much never build it now that Athene's is out. You'll have Ignite 95% of the time anyway so you won't need the active. The only thing Morello's has besides that is 5% more CDR. That's not worth the loss of the extra AP, MR and mana sustain you can get from Athene's.
