The rule is pretty clear. It doesn't matter if you point a gun at him and force him to click the +rep button or if you ask "If I was helpful to you and if you think I deserve it do you mind considering the possibility of giving me a +rep?", they are both against the rules. You are not allowed to ask for +rep in any way.
Besides, even if it was allowed there's still no practical difference between saying "If I make you a signature, you have to +rep me" and "If I make you a signature, +rep me if you like it".

They aren't necessarily asking for it, they are suggesting. I have been told about it, but still.... it's allowed. Saying, "Give me +Rep or you don't get a signature" is demanding, but simply saying, "If you feel like I deserve it, don't be afraid to hit that +Rep button." They aren't necessarily demanding, just suggesting.

In my experience "abusive behaviour" like comments saying, "This build is ****" and "It made me cut myself" are not abusive enough to warrant a reply for a report. So report whatever you like, 90% chance what you report isn't "abusive enough" anyway :)

I would have to agree with this. As anoyying as trolls are it's not flaming like GO %#K YOUR SELF BURN IN THE FIREST DEPTHS OF HE-DOUBLE HOCKY STICK! Ect. It's just an opinion of theirs usually but said in a rude manner.

@Wayne
And I was commenting the fact that asking for +rep in any way, shape or form, no matter how polite you are, is against the rules.
I would don't like when people ask for +rep either, but imo it's just impossible to actually enforce the rule.

The rules never even mentioned the word demanding so what you're saying has no correlation to the rule.
If you want to debate what is allowed or not then you need to use ask instead, which is the word used to define what is not allowed. So the question is:
Is "If you feel like I deserve it, don't be afraid to hit that +Rep button." considered a form of asking for +rep? It obviously is, just like "If you have spare time don't be afraid to drop by and help me move the furniture" is a polite way of asking "Can you help me with moving the furniture?".

Well we have discussed this with Matt before and he feels like it's ok to remind people that the function exists, but not frivolously. Like in sig shops some newer users might not even think to +rep so the "a +rep would be nice" statement is more supposed to remind people that the system is there than asking for +rep. Also the same for sigs depending on the statement.

I see what you're saying and I think that is a fair interpretation of the rules. I think in the wiki there's a little more elaboration on the +rep rules but the General Rules / Guidelines are supposed to be concise so people will take the time to read them. But the fact is that Matt decided on the interpretation of the rules above, and well he is kinda the boss. He might read this thread and reconsider but we'll see. :P
Thanks to GrandMasterD for my sig!

I think we should probably just reword the rules to clearly outlaw begging for Rep but allow reminders. "Ask" seems to be a little ambiguous in this case. Canoas is basically saying that any reminder is a form of asking for Rep.

If I had it my way, people would stop even saying that they're giving people rep -__-

I kind've feel the same way, haha. The problem is sometimes it is a nice gesture to say "like your post *explains why* thanks for taking the time to write this +rep" as opposed to the "you so funny +rep!" etc. So when you get one you get rid of both. :(

Precisely. The rule we have now is not being enforced nor is it really possible to enforce it. So why not change it and tone it down a bit?
And just ban it from signatures. Asking for it at the bottom of every post is just annoying.

Right now the rules are:
"MOBAFire has a system called “+rep” to award its users for being helpful. You are not allowed to ask for +rep in any way. It is also against the rules to bribe, trade or blackmail other users for +rep."

I would change it to:
"MOBAFire has a system called “+rep” to award its users for being helpful. While it is OK to remind people to +rep you for being helpful, excessive reminders (such as putting it on your signature) or blatantly asking for +rep is not allowed. It is also against the rules to bribe, trade or blackmail other users for +rep."

I agree. Sadly can't really distinguish the difference easily in a manner that will show people what the difference is o:
