I actually have been playing Maokai VERY different, and build him similar to Saintvicious's guide to Mundo in Season 3: http://www.lolpro.com/guides/dr-mundo/238-dr-mundo-build-guide-jungle-by-saintvicious He's very tanky, which helps his initiation in team fights as well as being able to peel for carries. The armor seals, quints, and starting cloth armor really help in the new jungle. While he may not do as much damage, this seems to be mitigated during ganks as he will get initially focused while performing CC, and due his tanky build, soaks up damage with no issue. Have you tried this type of build before? I find his jungle clears with it are very painfree.

As the new season begins to unfold with newly designed items and changes in the jungle, I will hopefully work on changing whatever is necessary to fit the needs of Season 3's game play or meta as soon as I can. I can log into PBE but login queues have been a pain so I haven't experimented heavily as I would have liked to these past few days.

I also do have to complete/edit some chapters of my guide. Again, thank you all for commenting and suggesting things that have made my guide come as far as it has.

Awesome guide +1! First game with him and i'm 1rst on damage and kill/assist. I agree with the tank build, Mao's abilities deal enough damage if you focus on a squishy champion and GA or Banshee veil is not necessary since if they focus you your carries will kill all of them so even if you die it's worth it ;).

Good job overall, I think a Boots would give you more gank potential as that is all you do, and the Rod of Ages is really not necessary.

If I remember correctly, Item slows cannot stack? (FH and omen).

I don't understand why you get Rod of Ages since it provides you AP and less health then a lot of items. Late game, you will be your team's tank so losing tankiness for a little bit of damage output is really bad I think.
I saw a lot of Maokai in tournaments and, you should take Phil. Stone-> Boots-> Heart of Gold. And about the boots, I see Maokai players take Mobility Boots more often then Mercury's Treads since faster ganks are much better.
Just finish the Jungle match-ups and other from that, it is a good guide. You deserve a +1!

MOBAVerse Library Review

I highly disagree with getting AP on jungle Mao. I see him as more of a support jungler.
You also say "The reason why I go 0/21/9 is for encouraging the role of Maokai as a support tank. He is not truly a damage dealer so you would rather want him to be tanky over AP", but then you get AP quints and RoA. Why not MS quints?

A bit more info on his abilities would be nice (when to use them and how)

I would prefer to keep the Catalyst until later on and then upgrate it to a banshee's veil.

Overall it's a good guide that teaches you how to play Mao, but i disagree with some of your choices.
