[/quote] whether i'm offended or not doesn't matter. a comment is offensive if the objective is to offend. otherwise i can say that the color yellow offends me and now the sun is offensive because its yellow. no, it doesn't make sense. i would be sensitive if something that's not offensive offended me, like someone saying "you have yellow pants" and i become offended. however, whether or not i'm offended doesn't change the fact that someone is being offensive. if i say you're a f**********r then i'm being offensive irregardless if your offended or no[/quote]

Therefore, the comment is not offensive. That is the state of things. You can say 'the colour yellow offends me, therefore the sun (which is yellow) offends me'. That does make sense. Taking offense is a property of the offended, not the one being so-called offensive, even if they intend to be offensive. A guy can curse at me and call me every insult under the sun, but if I do not find him offensive, then he is not offensive. How you wish to be perceived and how you are perceived are the two matters being separated here. You can find other people offensive even when they do not intend to be offensive. HEnce, I reiterate, that taking offense is a property of the offended, not the one who may or may not intend to be offensive. He may have intended to be offensive, but he is only so if you perceive him to be. Otherwise, he is not. Hence, you are sensitive to being offended.[/quote]

"A guy can curse at me and call me every insult under the sun, but if I do not find him offensive, then he is not offensive." therefore this must be true as well "if a guy compliments you and you find him offensive, then he is offensive." and both need to be true at the same time "if person A finds him offensive, and person B does not find him offensive, then he is both offensive and not offensive at the sime time" no. being offended and being offensive are not dependent. you can be offended by a non-offensive comment and you may not be offended by an offensive comment. however, just because you are offended by bananas it does not make bananas offensive.[/quote]
