[/quote] Honestly, this wasn't too hard for me to just suspend my disbelief on. I'm pretty sure that they're supposed to be speaking French, as evidenced in the first episode. It got a little stranger as characters moved around Europe to areas where I'd reasonably expect different languages to be spoken, but I don't really recall any areas where the language that I'd expect was a language that the characters involved wouldn't reasonably know anyway. What I found significantly more immersion breaking was the casual reference to an overnight train from London to Italy and the Japanese-style folded futons in the closet of a hotel in Brussels. Also, the ending of [i]Nodame Cantabile Finale[/i] was one of the worst I've seen in a while. It just flatly didn't actually resolve anything. At all. Seriously, it was a massive non-ending, and I feel like it's bad enough to reflect poorly on the series as a whole. I watched [i][C] Control[/i] (as it's titled on Hulu), but I don't remember much of it, honestly. It wasn't terribly good, but neither was it bad enough to make any kind of lasting impression on me. Endings that actually involve things ending are fun.]Also the total lack of actually resolving the romance plot. The series had been telling us for several episodes that things were going to end with Chiaki saying yes to Nodame's proposal. So when he does that, then she evades creating any actual commitment off of that, and then [u]nothing else happens regarding their romance[/u], it isn't okay. The fact that the climax of a [i]romance[/i] anime where episode 1 established that Nodame loves Chiaki is anything other than Nodame and Chiaki getting together in a real sense isn't okay. The fact that, after a crappy climax, the anime has the gall to also give us crappy resolution isn't okay. The fact that I watched 45 episodes of this anime just to get one of the worst anime endings I've seen in months isn't okay. My biggest problem with [i]Nodame Cantabile Finale[/i] is that it ended without doing what it had said was going to be the resolution in the first episode of [i]Nodame Cantabile[/i]. Not finishing the story at the end of the first or second season was okay, because there was still another season to get it done in. Not finishing the story [i]ever[/i] isn't okay, and that's exactly what [i]Nodame Cantabile Finale[/i] did. They didn't call the last episode "La dernier lecon" for nothing. There isn't more. The anime thinks it's done, when it clearly isn't. This is extremely frustrating. No matter how many other anime do basically the same thing, it's still bad, it still isn't okay, and I'm still going to bash anime for this failing. The journey to its ending was nice, I guess, but not good enough to justify spending so much time on what is just an incomplete story, especially given all the bullshit I had to put up with regarding the anime not understanding that places outside of Japan [i]shouldn't resemble Japan[/i]. Also, I don't think that it could have been worse really salvages it. While I'm glad that it wasn't worse, it still [i]didn't have to be bad[/i]. The anime was salvageable until the last episode.[/spoiler] Yeah, I'm kinda' butthurt over the [i]Nodame Cantabile Finale[/i] ending.[/quote]

Overall the main difference between the manga and the anime are: 1. That the manga makes jumps in the timeline of the story for the sake of pacing and sometimes to explain relevant things. I really like those. They add another layer to the story that makes you piece things together. Apparently some people don't like having to use their brain (like Dodger from the manga podcast I watch), so the anime took the path of just unraveling the story chronologically, which in my opinion makes the pacing worse. How disappointing :( 2. Thematic difference. The manga is more depressing :) A big theme is how insignificant human life is and how desperately humankind is clinging to its existence. It's quite depressing really; just when things are starting to look up things go fucking apeshit again. The anime has less impact in this regard, which might be a result of worse pacing because they tell the story chronologically. 3. They try to dramatize things too much in the anime. There's an overabundance of crying, screaming, vibrating eyes, speed lines and magical wind. I guess it's better that they're trying [i]too[/i] hard rather than not trying at all though.[/quote]
