Yeah I know, I realized that after my first few games with Rengar after I bought him like 5 months ago. I facepalm when I see a Rengar max Q in-lane, it's like, why would you want your harass to attract minion damage and be meelee, when your E is ranged and doesn't attract minion damage???????
Also E's damage increases by 45 or something each level, Q's damage increases by 30 each level. Empowered Q does the same damage whether you have it maxed or not, so there's literally no point in maxing it.
Top rengar guide maxes W. Yes, on AD Rengar, solo top. I might write a guide based on my limited experience with SotD Rengar just to try and take that **** down from the top. >:[

For me having high cs is part of being fed. When you're behind, your cs usually is lower too. When you're fed, your cs should be high (unless maybe you got all kills by roaming).

Ravenous Hydra was a test, I don't normally build that. I liked how it added something to the burst combo, but definitely don't think he needs it for pushing purposes :P Normally it'd be a LW or something. I also still had 4,5k gold left at the end)I mean... iunno, maybe
Sword of the Divine isn't as bad as I think, but I'm having a hard time considering it "core" (which is what you make it sound like) when I don't even like crit on Rengo to begin with :|

If you look at the screeno-shot where I was 8/4 with Rengar, I was being hard-core zoned by Riven and was unable to get kills either, I still managed to just farm up a BT and SotD and had better scaling into the game because my presence pretty much meant 5v4 team-fights.
I get that you don't like SotD, 'cuz I didn't really think it was good on ANY champ up until a couple of days ago, but think of it like this: Rengar's empowered Q does double your AA damage. And your Rengar deals a ****load of damage with empowered Q, right? Well a crit does double your AA damage too. For all intents and purposes, a crit = an empowered Q. If you jump on an enemy with Q and SotD active, you're basically doing 2 empowered Q's in a single auto-attack, then you're doing another empowered Q with your normal Q, and if they're still alive, you're doing another empowered Q. That's 4 empowered Q's and a normal Q in total. ( figuratively speaking, you know, it's actually 1 empowered Q, a Q and 3 crits, but it has the same effect )
Obviously if you skip SotD and build more AD your single empowered Q will do even more damage, but 4 empowered Q's > 1 empowered Q, even if the single Q would do slightly more damage. And remember that the whole combo occurs in less than a second, leaving for absolutely no reaction time.
I love SotD Rengar and plan on building it every game. Maybe in plat it isn't as effective because ADC's build defensively in response or something, but in every game I've played so far the ADC has just built full damage like every ADC in this Elo has been doing for ages.
SotD is very underrated if the enemy has 1 carry which is fed and needs to die. I occassionally build it on shaco too.

I could see it work at silver elo, but even then I think others are just safer/better than him atm.
Nope, you don't even need to be fed, you just need to have decent farm. BT + SotD + Brutalizer is all you need to 1-shot an enemy ADC with no defensive items, which most ADC these days don't seem to bother with anymore. I wasn't exactly fed in the 1st or 3rd games initially, but I could still 1-shot any squishy easily.
I'm gold IV and everyone on my team was gold III and II, it's far from Silver. :P NO ONE can kill quite as quickly as SotD Rengar can ( see: kills in 2 autos at max AS ), and few characters actually have it so easy to reach the ADC just the 1 time, unless the enemy team has an oracle's. Just use stealth outside of their vision and the ADC won't even realize you're there, and once you've jumped on them they're dead. Even on Talon I can find it hard to reach the ADC sometimes, but literally no one tries to stop me on Rengar.
