Twin Shadows is also a fantastic item to add to the list, jack.
Ohh, yes, I forgot about it, thanks!
I do sometimes build Twin Shadows even when I build the support items like Locket of the Iron Solari, Shurelya's Battlesong, etc.

Zyra is fine both mid and support, although I think she shines more in the support* role. The problem is that she is pretty damn squishy and if you're out of position you can easily die. She has some of the best team fighting potential out of all supports, I'd just be super careful in laning phase, because if you do miss a Grasping Roots a smart enemy will just engage on you.
As far as build: if you're playing her as a support there is no reason to build Rabadon's Deathcap. It's an expensive item and you won't be getting enough AP to make it worthwhile. Ruby Sightstone is an obvious must. I generally choose from Mobility Boots or Sorcerer's Shoes, but sometimes pick up Ninja Tabi or Mercury's Treads if the enemy has a strong engage and I fear dying quickly. Twin Shadows is situational and I really only build it near the end if I have a lot of excess gold. It's really hard to fit Kage's Lucky Pick and Ruby Sightstone into your build early game. Same goes for Shurelya's Battlesong. You pretty much just have to pick what you need, so if you're engage for your team (which is pretty bad) you should be gettting Mobi Boots and Shurelya's to catch people. Zyra support is usually played for the disengage and peel which is why I think Rylai's Crystal Scepter is a really good item on her. I don't think the new Aegis of the Legion/ Locket of the Iron Solari is good on her. It's better to have your jungler get it, while you go for something more offensive or for peeling.

It's true that you can end up building AP on Zyra even as support. Especially when your jungler already builds Locket of the Iron Solari. However I'd rather go for Rylai's Crystal Scepter and Liandry's Torment (also consider Morellonomicon) instead of Rabadon's Deathcap. They add a lot of utility besides the damage.
