In normal games, play whatever you want.
Normal games are designed to be fun, there is no shame in playing anything ranging from jungle soraka to Orianna adc.
However, in ranked there is usually more of an expectancy of you to play characters which are designed to fit specific roles and do them well. People play ranked to win, because ranked is designed that way. While YOU may feel exceptionally confident playing jungle others won't have much faith in you.
This can get your teammates unnecessarily stressed which can ultimately make them play worse and, even more likely, they will blame you if anything whatsoever goes wrong, regardless of if you were responsible or not.
While "anti-meta" builds are hilariously good fun, they are better off left in normals.

Mundo goes where he pleases.
And pleases, where he goes.
Aside from a few guides here and there, I'd recommend heading to youtube to find non-meta guides. There are channels dedicated to testing non-meta builds. Trick2G runs Utility everything, and wrecks house.
Establish credibility in your guides. Since there are plenty of gold, platinum, and diamond players besides you, I highly recommend you attach videos so people can see it in action. Palthios generally has non-meta item choices and builds, but he's meticulous about his video guides showing you why it works. Since he's willing to show you that it works, people are willing to try it. This process got Spin to Crit and his Yi guide to the top of their charts.

Well, we have Theory Crafting which used to be overrun with Chaotic Bliss and myself spamming off-the-wall ideas.

I love the idea of "unconventional" guides and builds. When I started to jungle Mordekaiser, it would have been easier on me if there was a guide about it, but I guess I learnt on my own. I don't know if MobaFire could accommodate that sort of filter, but I don't see why not. For instance, we have a "humour" section, so why not an "unconventional" section?
Personally, I'd love to read some highly rated guides with unconventional builds, and if they're not graded against "conventional" builds, I don't see the harm.

Likewise.

No more AP ____ guides pls :(
Jk, but honestly I don't think people would look at that section. I mean, look at our humor guide section. I literally forgot it existed for ~2 years >_____>

I was wondering if there was a section for non-meta style guides, or if there could possibly be one?
The reason why i'm wondering about it is that recently, I wrote a guide on jungle soraka. Granted it's not perfect or the most efficient guide out there, but I do feel I have credibility since I was able to win games at Gold Division with it.
However, when I did publish my guide, people didn't really like it since Soraka jungle isn't a Lee Sin, Udyr, Nunu etc... and many people think she wouldn't be viable in high elo and isn't a very good instawin champion.
Now, I wrote it because LoL is very stale. In fact, I mained Lee Sin Jungle since season 2, and almost every game there is no innovation. I miss the days when you saw double mid, heimerdinger top, Kassadin+nunu bot. They might not have been the most "effective" ways of playing the game, however, it was FUN. You went into a game not knowing who you'd face, and the thrill of having so many ways to play was part of the enjoyment.
Now I want to know, what is your opinion on non-meta picks? I am tired of going onto a champion's guide, and seeing the top 10 guides be "Miss Fortune ADC - How to win" and having the same content. Sure it is important to have guides on the best way to mechanically play a champion, but there's no diversity. I can't go to Mobafire and go "Ooo Jungle rumble, I haven't seen that before! I kinda want to try it!" simply because many people live by the saying that "if it's not the most efficient way of landing a win, even if its fun, we will bury them and raise the mechanically correct but non innovative guides".
Meanwhile, I will continue to update my Jungle Soraka guide, as well as make more unconventional guides (As long as they work and give me success in my division).
