Currently going through Ikkitousen S3. I feel like I'm slowly approaching my limits. I can't stand any more ******ed fanservice lol.
However, Ikkitousen S3 has an amazing soundtrack. I am sure the soundtrack alone is what got S3 a 7/10 on MAL despite the horrible horrible plot, pacing, aswell as the huge amount of **** it has.
The OP song is also one of my favourites, even though It's not that great. The chorus is very catchy, and I love it.
However, Ikkitousen S3 has an amazing soundtrack. I am sure the soundtrack alone is what got S3 a 7/10 on MAL despite the horrible horrible plot, pacing, aswell as the huge amount of **** it has.

I doubt it, unfortunately. Few people are likely to get very far into Ikkitousen unless they like it, which will tend to boost second and third season ratings; a lot of the people who would've rated it poorly didn't bother watching it and only a few trolls hated the first season enough to downvote things that come later. I'm pretty sure this is why second seasons tend to get better ratings on MAL than first seasons, all other things being equal.

I picked up Yowamushi Pedal on a whim, even though sports anime aren't usually my thing. I don't think this is going to be an exception, so I'm likely to lose steam and not finish this one. First episode was pretty good, all things considered. Otaku rides his bike places, there're some dudes in a bike racing club, clearly the dudes are gonna' end up recruiting the otaku in an episode or two. There's the fairly standard revenge story going on with one of the racing dudes, which I'd say pegs him as the otaku's main training partner. I'm not terribly familiar with sports anime, but I'd tend to think this one isn't gonna' be bad, at least.
Arpeggio of Blue Steel looks weird. It's done in full CG 3D. Looks like pretty good pre-rendered stuff from a lower budget current gen JRPG. (So nothing stupid fantastic like FF13's pre-rendered cutscenes.) It's not terrible, but sometimes it looks a bit stilted compared to most modern anime. Plot isn't anything too groundbreaking. Aliens attack, humanity is driven to the brink, some kids get random access to alien tech and fight back. Might be going somewhere interesting, but I think the main draw is supposed to be the art style.
Non Non Biyori looks like it's gonna' be a nice, light comedy. Maybe also a bit of coming of age story in there. It's basically about four girls of varying ages who go to school together in the country. Because they're four of the five kids at their school. And talk to each other. That kind of slice of life comedy. The first episode was kinda' boring, in that nothing happened, but that was kinda' nice, in a Natsume Yuujinchou-esque way.
Unbreakable Machine-Doll looks kinda' mediocre. Very little thought put into how the world works, a pretty major exposition dump of stuff everyone in the world knows, standard trope characters, standard trope revenge plot. Art budget looks fairly limited, given the amount of CG in the action sequences. Other than that, doesn't look like there's much all the wrong with it. Fairly standard magic sort of shonen, where the magic involves using external humanoid things they call dolls/puppets. I'm hoping the magic system turns out to be internally consistent, even if they don't explain it; doing otherwise is really, really lazy and bad. I'm gonna' stick with it, at least
EDIT: Just finished Tokyo Ravens as well, and I see no need to doublepost for it. Seems like a fairly standard shonen-boy-taps-into-hidden-power sort of show. There might be some interesting stuff going on with the onmyo magic they'll be using, but the series isn't likely to live and die on that. There's more 3D rendering in this one; art budgets must be suffering this season. Male lead is kinda' uninspired; what I think is gonna' be his female counterpart for most of the series hasn't had enough screen time for me to judge yet. There's at least some romantic drama going on, but shows like this don't tend to delve deep into that. Mostly this episode was the male lead rejecting the call to adventure, although he's obviously going to accept the call in the end. First episode just didn't get that far. I think this is gonna' turn out to be pretty decent, all things considered.

But no, those are actually not versions of codecs, they're sound channels. 5.1 means 5 speakers+1 subwoofer(that is used for base sounds), which is normal surround sound, 2.0 means 2 speakers, which is normal stereo. I don't have a surround sound system, so 5.1 audio is useless to me. (and I don't plan on getting one either)
And as you might imagine, the size is significantly larger when you have 5(+1) audio channels instead of 2. The size is almost 3 times larger with 5(+1) channels.
Eh, I might, but I've got other stuff with way higher priority.
